I wonder if the queen has any real authority to override this?

Absolutely none at all. A King attempting to circumvent the powers of the Speaker over the House of Commons was a major trigger for their Civil War.

The monarch can, under certain circumstances, dissolve Parliament if I’m not mistaken. Rarely used, but the monarchy isn’t completely toothless.
