THey were there making sure none of the people that showed up for the speech had any weapons, they gave them to the Rioters outside for safe keeping.
They were told not to engage because property damage was of less concern than personal injury to the rioters or bystanders according to the news.
The police have no duty to protect the personal safety of rioters. A serious change in rules of engagement need to happen or this will continue because the criminals know they will not be hindered in their lawlessness.
Uh, these anarcho-commies have been doing this exact same thing in Berkeley-Oakland for 40 years, while the cops do nothing.
Same leaders, too, who are getting very long of tooth.
40 years ago, though , they were a violent fringe who were even discredited on the left.
Back then, the left were mostly free speechers and peaceniks.
What’s new is that they now have financial backers bringing in mobs of utterly ignorant, spoiled children who have no clue who their “leaders” are, much less any knowledge of history or understanding of tyranny.
