Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama hasnt yet been confirmed as U.S. attorney general, but concern already is mounting that state Gov. Robert Bentley will use his vacancy-appointment power to torpedo an investigation of his own alleged corruption.
An apparent front-runner for the Senate appointment is Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange, a fellow Republican who asked that impeachment proceedings against Bentley in the state legislature be delayed pending an investigation by his office.
If Bentley appoints Strange, the governor also can pick a new attorney general, potentially affecting that investigation.
"That's what the governor would call a twofer," says Selma, Alabama, Police Chief Spencer Collier, a whistleblower who helped make Bentley's alleged misconduct a national news story last year.

Special provecutor time.
Sessions being the type of guy he is, would probably step in and resolve a situation that was over the line.
Texas USED to be a blue state...but now it's SOLIDLY RED.
Change does happen.
Alabama ping
Bentley is the Judas who took down (without warning) the Confederate Flag at the Civil War monument in Montgomery. After that, I knew his time in Alabama politics was ticking down. I wish him the worst.
Senator Strange??? Sounds like a Democrat.
Yes, but the Dems are doing their best to turn Texas blue. Illegals voting and the influx of Katrina refugees from a decade ago voting solidly Dem.
Better Luther than Martha!
True.
He KNEW that taking our the CSA flag would push MANY buttons and he did it anyway. He deserves all the flack he gets.
As those Texans would say, coming from DEEP in the heart of Texas: "We're fixin' to vote RED, y'all, no mistake!
Well, it's better than "Doctor Strangelove."

Will we ever get the heck out of Selma, Alabama?
Judge Roy Moore would be the best choice and could fend off any challenger. However, I fear the corrupt governor will act purely on self interest.
You are very correct.
Roy Moore is the best choice for senator.
Judge Roy Moore for Senate......Can you just picture Schmuckey’s face?
Bentley is likely to choose someone who supports the teachers unions like him. That’s not Strange. More like Baird who is really a closet DEMOcrat!
Bentley is the worst you are right! That’s why he is going to put in a democrat in the senate. I don’t think he will pick anyone we’ve named on this thread yet
This sounds like some crazy speculation and conspiracy theory. I don;t like Bentleybut he ain’t picking this to let himself off the hook
We’d be lucky to have a Senator Strange. Certainly don’t want a Senator Bentley or Baird!!!1
