full title...........BREAKING NEWS: Trump names Neil Gorsuch as his Supreme Court nominee - firing starting gun on bitter battle with Democrats.........................President Donald Trump announced his appointment tonight of Neil Gorsuch, a U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit judge, to the Supreme Court.
If confirmed by the Senate, Gorsuch will fill the vacancy created by the February 2015 death of Antonin Scalia.
Republicans must rally eight Democrats to cross party lines in order for the appointment to clear a legislative hurdle known as cloture that takes 60 votes.

Neil was approved previously as a judge....unanimously!
Confirmed to his current position with every Democrat voting for him. Now they all say say he’s unfit. If McConnell doesn’t get him confirmed it might be time for some patriots to march on the Senate.
I’m thinking any Schumer filibuster is DOA.
There are a lot of vulnerable Democrats that will at least need to thread the needle and force a vote (although I only see a couple of them actually voting to confirm him). Being obstructionist will be political suicide for them in 2018 if they represent a red or even light blue state.

Not so thrilled about the Harvard bit but maybe he was not contaminated too badly.
They approved him before. They’ll just go through the power drama and he will be easily approved. A 4/4 court is good for neither side.
Hope he’s the real deal and doesn’t turn left like so many do when they walk into Court.

Gorsuch is a proponent of originalism, the idea that the Constitution should be interpreted as the Founding Fathers would have interpreted it, and of textualism, the idea that statutes should be interpreted literally, without considering the legislative history and underlying purpose of the law.[3][4][5]
Judicial Activism
In a 2005 speech at Case Western Reserve University, Gorsuch said that judges should strive "to apply the law as it is, focusing backward, not forward, and looking to text, structure, and history to decide what a reasonable reader at the time of the events in question would have understood the law to be—not to decide cases based on their own moral convictions or the policy consequences they believe might serve society best."[34]
In a 2005 article published by National Review, Gorsuch argued that "American liberals have become addicted to the courtroom, relying on judges and lawyers rather than elected leaders and the ballot box, as the primary means of effecting their social agenda" and that they are "failing to reach out and persuade the public". Gorsuch wrote that, by relying on judges instead of elected officials and the ballot box to enact their agenda, American liberals are circumventing the democratic process on issues like gay marriage, school vouchers, and assisted suicide, and this has led to a compromised judiciary, which is no longer independent. Gorsuch wrote that American liberals' "overweening addiction" to using the courts for social debate is "bad for the nation and bad for the judiciary".[35][16]

There is also a ‘win cloud’ at work. Trump is making so many changes in volume and frequency that the ‘narrative’ obsessed left can’t get their opposition talking points written and distributed in time to make it sound as if it’s rational thought instead of propaganda.
They have always screamed and cried and chanted and held their signs but someone was always on TV attenpting to sound reasonable on their behalf. The only thing they can manage in this hyperspeed state of flux is the screaming and crying and chanting part.

Right - needed to wait until it was official - even by the time it was posted President Trump had already named him as the nominee, and by the time it was pulled, the President had already finished his speech and Judge Gorsuch had started his own speech. :-)
