I can see a legitimate role for some limited type of federal laws and enforcement authority with regard to hazardous materials and substances.

We don’t want to be like China. We can’t have factories spilling SO2 into the atmosphere, or polluting our waters.

Of course, the EPA is so out of control and over the top that it needs to be gutted. But if it’s shut down, we will need to have some sort of agency or authority to handle interstate environmental issues, and also to protect interstate and coastal waters.

Volcanoes emit SO2 all the time.

Executive agencies are not accountable to voters. If something really ought to be handled at the federal level rather than state level, then Congress ought to establish its own committees and keep the executive from growing out of control, especially where they think they can legislate when they have no such power.

The EPA as a separate agency does not need to exist. Its functions and duties can be merged into some other department, such as the Interior Department. At the same time, all new regulations should be reviewed and approved/disapproved by the house of representatives. No regulation should ever be written as to become embedded into the economy or into society, and can be abolished once they become unnecessary or become burdensome.

How were these issues regulated before the creation of the EPA?

All that without a flame retardant suit?

Anyone with industrial experience will realize the convenient potential for hazardous dumping. I’d have no problem rebooting the EPA with only rudimentary responsibilities.

We have gotten to the point where a very small regulatory/enforcement office is necessary. I guess we have evolved/been indoctrinated enough that some things just ain’t gonna happen and if they do, the perps can be made examples of. EPA no longer any more relevant than unions.
