WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Roughly 900 U.S. State Department officials signed an internal dissent memo critical of President Donald Trump's travel ban for refugees and immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries, a source familiar with the document said on Tuesday.

A senior State Department official confirmed that the memorandum in the department's "dissent channel" had been submitted to management.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said on Monday he was aware of the memo but warned career diplomats that they should either "get with the program or they can go."

You know how some of those looney churches used to have mass weddings? Maybe Trump could rent a stadium and gather all the malcontents and elitist bureaucrats, then hold a massive:

About 70,000 people work at State from Wiki, and I think that number is low.

You could get 1% of people at a company to sign anything. All they’ve really accomplished is to their new boss they are going to be a problem.

>> Do we need 900 state department officials?

There are only 206 countries. Not every one needs a cultural attaché.

If any on the list were in the foreign service, they better have factored malaria pills and an armored vehicle into the next four years of their lives. Pretty sure like the military they have to take an overseas assignment when directed.

Civil servants likely can’t get fired easily, but clearances can be easily pulled for reinvestigation if they hold them because of their stated willingness to defy a lawful order.

...warned career diplomats that they should either "get with the program or they can go."

No option should be given.
They've already told you they're not going to get with the program by signing the memo! Fire them all!

That’s fine. They can voice their opinion. They can also decide whether to work for the new administration and do their job or find work elsewhere. They won’t be able to transfer due to a hiring freeze. But, I’m sure there are other places they can find work. They have choices. It’s now up to them.

Fire every single last one of them. Fire them before breakfast. The very next morning, call them again and remind them they were fired.

What in the name of Sam Hill are 69,000 people doing in the State Department? What possibly could they all be doing?

You are probably correct, but they can be marginalized to irrelevance if Tillerson is smart. Take them out of the true chain of command and let them by in charge of the broom closet or in charge of supplies. Put hundreds of them to do these jobs and look for anything to terminate them and no raises period.
