RE: If California can secede, Jefferson can secede.
Pardon my ignorance... but where is Jefferson?
Jefferson is mainly the northern part of California, north of San Francisco and more or less north of Sacramento.
When I lived in Santa Barbara years ago, there was a story on one of the L.A. news stations, complete with black-and-white footage from 1941, that showed an independent State of Jefferson that had been declared at that point in time.
Men were stopping cars on roads in the proposed new state, handing out flyers and phamplets to motorists declaring the establishment of the new state.
Of course, the new state had not been approved by either the federal government or the state of California.
The whole idea was abandoned after the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th of that year.
In the mid-20th century, there was a proposal to create a new state called Jefferson that would comprise parts of northern California and southern Oregon. When I visited Siskiyou, Shasta and Modoc Counties, in northern California, in 1999, I saw an occasional sign proclaiming the "State of Jefferson."
The northern portion of California and a section of South Oregon are trying to form a new stare called jefferson due to lack of representatives in the Liberal governments.
Here's wiki. There's much more if you search "State of Jefferson".
