Any doubts that Hollywood would take sharp aim at President Trumps immigration order were swiftly vanquished at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night. Amid upsets, winner after winner lashed out at the policy, pleaded for acceptance of differences in a bitterly divided time and, in the case of the cast of Stranger Things, adopted the stance of political firebrands.
We will get past the lies, we will hunt monsters, said David Harbour, a cast member of the Netflix series, which won for best television drama, as the audience roared its approval. And when we are lost amid the hypocrisy and casual violence, we will punch some people in the face when they seek to destroy the weak and the disenfranchised and the marginalized.
The political defiance dominating the night almost overshadowed the upset wins: Hidden Figures picked up best film ensemble over Moonlight, and Denzel Washington, the star of Fences, won best actor over Casey Affleck in Manchester by the Sea. The Screen Actors Guild Awards are heavily predictive of Oscar wins, and actors make up the biggest branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which doles out those prizes next month.

Did anyone actually watch this tripe???
Oh, puhleaze.
He went full virtue signaling.
Never go full virtue signaling
And the Hollywood left become more and more irrelevant to the rest of America.
I make it a rule not to watch any “awards” programs. Just a bunch of wealthy know-it-alls getting together to pat each other on the back and give out trophies for atrocious movies, music or TV shows.
All the “speeches” say the same thing; it would be interesting to see one of these goofs get up on stage and endorse what Trump is doing. This guy sounded like he wanted to stand out from his like-minded cohorts giving speeches last nite, so he went through the dictionary, strung what looked like a lot of high-minded words together, and then got up and delivered a bunch of pompous gibberish.
That would be a guaranteed career ender.
It’s yet another narcissistic awards show, specifically actors giving awards to other actors. We should absolutely boycott these libtard shows. I hope terrible show ratings aggravate their sick insecurities.
When will actors learn that no one gives a rat’s backside about their political beliefs. They’re very well paid to entertain (which they frequently fail to do), not tell us their opinions. Frankly I don’t care now and have never cared what celebrities thought about anything.
SAG awards? They give awards to aging actors with sagging boobs and big guts?
When I put money in his cup, all I want is to watch the monkey perform, not lecture me on his political views.
My sentiments exactly. Even when I was a teenager back in the mid 1980s, I began to see awards shows as overdressed nonsense and tripe and soon stopped watching them.
Here’s a prediction: Ratings will suck.
I thought it was the Film Actors Guild...
Viewership numbers are down at least 600,000. I don’t know anyone who watched that drivel. I hope we completely ignore the Oscars as well.
Were awards ceremonies more worth watching back in those days?

Dammit. I missed the SAG award again? That make 49 years in a row.
Lol David Niven was a class act. I loved him in Murder by Death.
I thought it was the Film Actors Guild...
