As of this writing there are reportedly scores of individuals being detained at airports across the country because they originate from countries on President Trump’s “ban list.” Though the ban is indefinite for refugees from war-torn Syria, the White House’s Executive Order stops short of permanently restricting access for those in other predominantly Muslim countries on the list. The purpose of the order based on its language is to ensure that the United States has extensive screening and biometric procedures in place prior to opening our borders again. The process, according to the order, should be completed within 120 days, something that seems to have been under reported by the mainstream media, likely in order to fuel further tensions such as the widespread protests we are seeing at international airports in the United States. Further, the Trump administration has now made it clear the holders of green cards are legal immigrants and will not be affected by the order.
The tensions we are witnessing today across the country will likely be raised significantly in coming days because in addition to the Executive Order banning immigration from certain countries, the Trump administration has also enacted an order to deal with illegal aliens who are already in the United States. It was a major position for the President in the run-up to the election and now Trump looks to be making good on his promise to deal with illegal immigration head on.
Dubbed Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States, this Executive Order outlines numerous guidelines for dealing with undocumented immigrants who are in the United States illegally.
The order uses a sweeping definition for “criminal” activity, likely threatening millions of people with the real possibility of deportation...

It should be noted that this ban is akin to closing the airspace to incoming air traffic on 9/11-it's temporary until we get things figured out.
Are we supposed to feel bad for the people who chose to leave the USA, knowing that a president had just been elected who promised to crack down on immigration, and who is systematically acting on his promises? They thought they could just continue to come and go willy-nilly?

Refugees are by definition the losers of the conflict who are forced to flee the country before the people they have terrorized can bring them to justice.

Sec. 5. Enforcement Priorities. In executing faithfully the immigration laws of the United States, the Secretary of Homeland Security (Secretary) shall prioritize for removal those aliens described by the Congress in sections 212(a)(2), (a)(3), and (a)(6)(C), 235, and 237(a)(2) and (4) of the INA (8 U.S.C. 1182(a)(2), (a)(3), and (a)(6)(C), 1225, and 1227(a)(2) and (4)), as well as removable aliens who:
(a) Have been convicted of any criminal offense;
(b) Have been charged with any criminal offense, where such charge has not been resolved;
(c) Have committed acts that constitute a chargeable criminal offense;
(d) Have engaged in fraud or willful misrepresentation in connection with any official matter or application before a governmental agency;
(e) Have abused any program related to receipt of public benefits;
(f) Are subject to a final order of removal, but who have not complied with their legal obligation to depart the United States; or
(g) In the judgment of an immigration officer, otherwise pose a risk to public safety or national security.

President Trump’s actions and plans are pretty close to what I’ve been saying for a year that I want:
1. A road along the entire border, navigable by Jeep or similar vehicle, with triple strand concertina wire barriers 100-200 yards on each side monitored frequently for vandalism. That can be done very quickly and will immediately slow the crossings of illegals. We must secure the border so illegals cannot easily enter (or reenter after being deported).
2. At least one additional barrier on our side beyond those double barbed wire obstacles, whether a fence, a wall, or something else physical to prevent unauthorized passage. Plus a barrier on the Mexican side built by Mexico to avoid penalties/retaliation. We must secure the border so illegals cannot easily enter (or reenter after being deported).
3. Pregnant illegals who are not immediately deported should be held outside the United States so their anchor babies will not be US citizens.
4. All illegals who committed the crime of entering our country illegally or of overstaying after legal entry and then committed any other crime while in our country should be deported. No exceptions. Those deported should be permanently barred from any legal reentry or path to citizenship. Any state or local government with a “sanctuary” policy should be barred from receiving federal funds; and illegals who access social services, including schools, should be provided those services as ordered by the courts but also required to be reported to ICE.
5. All illegals who committed the crime of entering our country illegally in the past two years, and thus have not been here long enough to have stronger ties here than at home, should be deported. In other words, no new growth in our illegal population. Those deported should be permanently barred from any legal reentry or path to citizenship. No exceptions.
6. Once those are taken care of, we should deport the remaining illegals (or better, encourage them to go home on their own). Allow those who go home voluntarily to apply for legal reentry and legal status. Those deported should be permanently barred from any legal reentry or path to citizenship - again, no exceptions. For those who go home willingly and finally show some respect for the law, we should take into account in their visa applications any past history of productive work in the United States, English proficiency if they learned our language while here, and any record of living here without using welfare and other social services.
7. The only way for illegals to gain legal status should be to apply from their home countries for legal entry after voluntarily going home. Note: We also need to fix legal immigration so that the number of immigrants approved by Congress and by the President can obtain visas in a reasonable time to come here, and they can do it from the countries we wish to receive immigrants from, after thorough background checks.
