Why Did The Media Fail So Badly In Its Efforts To Elect Hillary?
Zero Hedge ^ | 1-29-2017 | Tyler Dueden - Mises

Yesterday in Taki's Magazine, David Cole suggested that maybe, just maybe, Hollywood isn't as powerful in swaying public opinion as many people assume it is.

This belief is shared not only by the "stars" of Hollywood itself — who naturally fancy themselves as great "thought leaders" — but also by conservatives themselves, including the late Andrew Breitbart. Breitbart, as Cole points out, was even rather obsessed with the issue, and harped on the need to create a right wing rival to Hollywood.

Cole, however, wonders if this all is really based on an accurate appraisal of the situation. After all, if Hollywood is so good at convincing people of its own point of view, why is it that Republicans keep winning so many elections? Cole notes:

But wait…even with all that Hollywood “interference,” didn’t we just win the last presidential election? Don’t we have the House and Senate, too? Haven’t we also won an unprecedented number of statewide legislative seats and governorships?

This doesn't prove Hollywood has no effect on behavior and ideology, of course. But, it is entirely plausible that its power is not nearly as great as assumed.

Indeed, when it comes to discussing the effects of marketing, messaging, advertising, and propaganda, "assumed" is certainly a key word. There are a great many assumptions being made, but precious little evidence to back these assumptions up.

This appears to apply well beyond the field of mere Hollywood-created propaganda, as well. Both the legacy media and Hollywood gave full-throated endorsements to Hillary Clinton in 2016, and yet, the best Clinton managed was what can, at best, be called a tie with Donald Trump.

It seems the media's power may not be any more far-reaching than Hollywood's.

Just barely, and by margins I am not comfortable with. This could all turn very quickly...

I agree. I wasn’t a huge cheerleader for Trump before the election, but the way the Establishment is coming after him makes me like him more and more each day. Publicly supporting him is important, as well as asking detailed questions of the globalist opposition serf puppets when they parrot their overlords’ talking points.

Received this email.

Dear Hollywood celebrities,

You exist for my entertainment. Some of you are great eye candy. Some of you can deliver a line with such conviction that you bring tears to my eyes. Some of you can scare the crap out of me. Others make me laugh. But you all have one thing in common, you only have a place in my world to entertain me. That’s it.

You make your living pretending to be someone else. Playing dress up like a 6 year old. You live in a make believe world in front of a camera. And often when you are away from one too. Your entire existence depends on my patronage. I’ll crank the organ grinder; you dance. I don’t really care where you stand on issues. Honestly, your stance matters far less to me than that of my neighbor. You see, you aren’t real. I turn off my TV or shut down my computer and you cease to exist in my world. Once I am done with you, I can put you back in your little box until I want you to entertain me again. I don’t care that you don’t like Mr.Trump. But I bet you looked cute saying it. Get back into your bubble.

I’ll let you know when I’m in the mood for something blue and shiny. And I’m also supposed to care that you will leave this great country if Trump becomes president? Ha. Please don’t forget to close the door behind you. We’d like to reserve your seat for someone who loves this country and really wants to be here. Make me laugh, or cry. Scare me. But realize that the only words of yours that matter are scripted. I might agree with some of you from time to time, but it doesn’t matter. In my world, you exist solely for my entertainment. So, shut your pie hole and dance.

It was often stated that Clinton was a lousy candidate. The media was in denial about that fact and pretended that fact did not exist. The media, like the Clinton campaign, was also totally out of touch with working Americans. I’m watching Chuck Todd right now. He still doesn’t get it.

And he clearly wants to live in ignorance and wants his audience to live in ignorance as he did his best to prevent Priebus from educating him on the facts of the 7 countries designated by Obama and Congress as exporters of terrorism.

Well... narcissistic celebrities don’t work for free. That is a fact.

Start with who is paying the airfare.

Why Did The Media Fail So Badly In Its Efforts To Elect Hillary?

In the first place they have the credibility of the guy who keeps calling from India trying to sell me home improvement projects. Hi, I'm Steve and I would like to take a moment of your ...[slamming sound followed by dial tone].

It isn't an argument, a debate, I don't want to know your side. The only angle here is go the f' away.

This isn’t new.

Hollywooders are very good at exciting people who already agree with them.

They are utter failures at changing people’s minds.

They are good at hardening attitudes and lousy at gaining new adherents to their ideas.

“Why Did The Media Fail So Badly In Its Efforts To Elect Hillary?”

Because they refused to look at the real polls which said she was down in several key states. They chose to use their own flawed polling and relying on cheating in places which would put her over the top. They knew they had a bad candidate and they were afraid to tell that to the Clinton’s.

Bottom line, just like 2000, never take things for Granted. If Hillary got in the bus, went back and forth to Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania, she would have won the election. Instead she went back and forth to Florida, New York and California collecting money. In the end, I think the Clinton’s were afraid of Trump going to NY and NJ.

Why Did The Media Fail So Badly In Its Efforts To Elect Hillary?

Because they believed their own headlines and polls.

“A truly lousy product is difficult to sell, no matter how talented the salesman may be.”

That’s probably the most succinct analysis I’ve read.

It'll look pretty and smell less, but it's still a piece of poo......

I’m still making monthly donations to Trump - we need to make sure he has the resources, and proof of backing, as he moves on and for the 2020 elections.

Exactly. Funny how the media pushed such a high approval rating, but look at the dem party since Obama was elected. It's been all but decimated.

This is very true. There are many other media outlets with the alternative point of view to counterpunch the constant barrage of leftist politics promoted within the MSM and within pop culture media outlets.
