President Donald Trump said Friday that he will defer to the judgment of Defense Secretary James Mattis that torture and waterboarding should continue to be banned in the interrogations of terror suspects.
"He has stated publicly that he does not necessarily believe in torture or waterboarding or however you want to define it," Trump said of Mattis, a retired Marine general who had commands in Iraq and Afghanistan. "I don't necessarily agree, but he [Mattis] will override because I'm giving him that power."
"I'm going to rely on him" on so-called "enhanced interrogation techniques," Trump said, though "I happen to believe it does work."
Trump said Mattis told him in December that he could get more out of a terror suspect with "a pack of cigarettes and a beer" than he could with torture.

Well I guess torture is back on the table then.
Sounds like good PR. He gets to please the base screaming that he’d like to do a lot worse things to them, but he is restrained by “Mad Dog”. Win, win!
“Waterboarding is not torture. Trump and Mattis need to clarify.”
Trump has clarified his position that it is not torture but Congress and Obama passed a law against it.
Of course it’s torture. Your body thinks you’re drowning and you start to die. If you haven’t experienced it you really can’t talk. I’ve gone through it. No other word for it.
Correction: Obama banned it.
“Trump said Mattis told him in December that he could get more out of a terror suspect with “a pack of cigarettes and a beer” than he could with torture.”
I wonder how that plays out in the “ticking time bomb” scenario?
Wow.... what’d you do to get WBd?
Worse than waterboarding.
:)
OK no torture! We will just whack off their heads, slowly!
As long as this decision by Mattis isn’t based on sentiment and having more reliable means of getting information, then I’m for it.
Or we could use piano wire like you saw through PVC with. More American craftsman-like.
This is what a leader does. Hire the right person for a job. make sure that your expectations and goals are clear, and then leave them the hell alone
Makes me so happy to hear this... EXACTLY what I expected from a Trump administration, Delegate authority and no micromanaging!
It is so funny, we are so used to politicians and their campaign lies, the libs just cant believe he is doing what he said he was going to do during his campaign. If they are surprised about anything so far, it is just proof they were not listening to what he was saying!
Hire a salty leatherneck nick-named "Mad Dog" and leave it up to him whether to tickle a ragheads toes with a feather or crush his testicles with pliers.
Wonder how this will turn out when American lives are at stake...{:-)
More popcorn, please...
I heard two men talking about this on Fox News today—Shepard Smith (?) and Somethingorother. They are as stupid as the CNN “experts”.
Yes, Mattis is fighting terrorists. He is fighting those who commit the acts of classic guerilla warfare.
But remember, because the guerilla can chose the time, place and means of battle, the guerilla can never be defeated “in the field.”
But that advantage is tempered by the fact that the guerilla cannot win without outside support. A classic example; the VC needed Russia and the PRC. We won at Yorktown not because we defeated the Brits gun for gun, but because the French fleet prohibited Cornwallis from being resupplied and evacuating his British Army to NY to fight again.
Mattis must “hold” the guerilla in the field, while eliminating (with others) his support structure at his home base.
I heard Mattis got pulled over for speeding.......... he let the cops off with a warning!
allow me.....
all ISIS captures should skinned alive and their parts fed to dogs while the can still live to see it .
bring back lion pits
