She’s been telling Peg all week that she wants to go downstairs. Peg said no, not alone. I won’t try alone either, so we decided to do it together. Then found the lift didn’t work. She hasn’t been downstairs for at least 5 months. The last time we were leaving for an appointment and she fell and I had to call the neighbor to get her up.

Something really cool happened when the young man was here to work on the lift. Conversation came around to me telling him that one week ago today I had regenerative stem cell injections in my knees. His face lit up and he said he had been doing research on that and was really happy with what he was finding! YES!!! He was finding lots of athletes swearing that the procedure allowed them to go back to activities that they thought they had lost...running, jumping, wrestling. And my goal is to avoid knee replacements, AND when I told him insurance wouldn’t pay and it was pricey he told me what it is costing in the lower 48...the same as I paid. Music to my ears.

Insurance costs up here can be so high that insurance companies are paying airfare and hotels if you go outside for some procedures.

He was excited to know someone who had had the procedure, and I was excited to know a stranger doing research only had good things to say.

I remember when your mom fell and you had to call the neighbor. I didn’t realize she hadn’t been downstairs since then. But I don’t blame ya a bit for not wanting to try again after that last time. It’s hard to do that alone.
It’ll be nice if the two of you can help her down there but don’t y’all hurt yourselves doing it. Especially you with those knees. No wrong moves, ok?

Neat that the guy knew exactly what you were talking about. I didn’t know about it until you said you were going to have it done. Cool stuff, and it sounds like it’s making lives better for a lot of people. There’s no excuse for insurance not to cover it.

I guess most things are mighty expensive up there. Insurance costs are high everywhere these days and I can only imagine what they’re like for y’all. Insurance companies are greedy and I don’t know if/how they’ll ever back down again.

He actually came close but it was getting late and we had to run. Maybe today out at Waurika Lake he’ll find a gopher or two.

I have high hopes. The receptionist has had one knee done and said it was the best thing she had done (Mom with a 4 or 5 year old to chase around), and the owner, to whom I have asked direct questions, has had them in his wrist.

The procedure I had several years ago, Synvisc-One, is like jello injected and then it sets up. But it only lasts for a year or less. I nursed mine for almost 18 months before I knew I needed it again if I was going to function at work and home. My friend told me about this pain relief center that her friend was going to...so off I went and they do have a different brand, Supartz, but they also told me about the regenerative stem cell option. Stem Cells? Babies? No way...they said that is the very first question they always get.

Women scheduling elective C-sections are the voluntary donors of the afterbirth. They are prescreened and everything is tested for safety. Then the cells are tested and all that other stuff so that they can be injected.

I asked how do they know to regenerate cartilage in the knee. He said the few cells left trying to fight the inflammation are jumping up and down and waving for the new cells to help with fighting the inflammation and start doing their work. And that is why NO ANTI INFLAMMITORIES for 2 months. They need the fighters to keep fighting and not be repressed by ibuprofen, etc. He said, and I have also heard, that sports injury docs are getting away from the ice treatment first...they need the fighter cells to fight in place.

So...onward!

It’s amazing the things they’re doing with stem cells. It seems like every time we turn around, we hear about something different. Normally it’s something do with growing different body parts and still in the experimental stage. But this is being put to use already and it seems with impressive results. Very interesting to learn something about it.

Now YOU just be careful and don’t so anything to mess up what they did to you. We want you on that skating rink at the mall one o’ these days, showing the kids how it’s done. LOL!

Ok, so not on the ice but won’t it be nice to just walk and not ache? HECK YEAH!!!

Good morning all.

Stopping in to catch up on pings (sorry if I missed anyone) and say hello before signing off for the weekend.

I’ve got a busy day: new bedroom suite coming this afternoon, so plenty of cleaning and clearing the room in preparation.

Off to gym. Will try to check back later during a break.

(p.s. woo hoo to all how grabbed a 50)

Have a great weekend, y’all

Good morning Miss Kathy :)

Hope all is well with you.

We are all well. My military kiddos are especially happy with their new commander in chief. All this winning is sweeter for them I think.

I have a second granddaughter tossing around the notion of enlisting in the Air Force but no decision made yet. If it happens I’ll drop a comment over here ;)

Busy weekend - picking up a friend from the airport, church on Sunday, and celebrating the long and wonderfully blessed life of a good friend. He was 87 years old, a USAAF veteran who retired in Tucson, then worked in the mines for awhile. He is going to be missed.
