Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) said Republicans should fight to get President Trump's coming Supreme Court nominee confirmed by any means necessary.
Trump has said he will be announcing his choice to fill the late Antonin Scalia's seat on the bench next week.
Republicans will need at least eight Democrats to support Trump's nominee to overcome the 60-vote filibuster hurdle. But Cruz suggested the GOP shouldn't rule out the so-called "nuclear option" to reduce the threshold to a majority. The move would be a gamble, setting a precedent that could weaken the GOP's position if Democrats come back into power.
I think we should do whatever it takes to get him confirmed," the former presidential candidate said on Fox News' "Hannity" Tuesday night.
When pressed about whether Republicans would employ the nuclear option this week, McConnell simply said: "The nominee will be confirmed."

The Primaries are over. The Election is over.
We Won...try not to reverse the results by causing unnecessary splits...or are you really a DU Troll.
I would like to believe that you are one of us. Get over your butt-hurt.
Oh, SHIT! You are just another “Principled Conservative” that would rather see the RATS win, if you can’t get your total way!
You are much like McCain and his girlfriend Linda!
agreed
“Ted Cruz is about the most moral congressman in congress and a beck of a lot more moral than Donald Trump.”

“a beck of a lot more moral than Donald Trump”

Beck? As in Glenn Beck? I know it was a typo, but that’s funny right there.
Will the Closet dimocrats Juan McLame and Linda Graham stick with us?
Bullshit!
The Dems did not trigger the nucler options for SCOTUS nominations only because they did not need to. Obama made 3 nominations during his term. GOP votes gave both Sotomayor and Kagan filibuster proof majority approval. The 3rd, Garland, was nominated after the Dems lost control of of the Senate and the 51 votes needed to use the nuclear option.
While the Democrats did not have occasion/need to use the nuclear option for SCOTUS nominations before they lost the Senate, they fully intended to use if and when the retook control.
"Reid: If Hillary wins and Dems retake the Senate, expect Dems to use the Nuclear Option for SCOTUS"
"Harry Reid's Parting Shot: Dems Will Nuke The Filibuster For SCOTUS"
"Kaine: Dems will use 'nuclear option' if GOP blocks court nominee"
The 2nd link includes Schumer being questioned about his position on Reid's admission of this intention for the Senate after Reid leaves and Schumer takes over. Schumer refused to answer.
3) Since Reid made this proclamation after he endorsed Schumer to be his successor [ "Harry Reid endorses Chuck Schumer to lead Senate Democrats" ] can anyone really believe Reid would have anointed Schumer without his agreement on this critical issue? Reid would certainly have at least asked and determined if Schumer disagreed - and Schumer would have been free to disclaim, or at least distance himself from, this intention.
I would like to see someone on our side come out with the truth. Republicans do believe that a President should be able to have the Cabinet and the SCOTUS judges that he/she wants. The Republicans in the Senate at the time confirmed the Communist Kagan, because Obama wanted her. They also confirmed the slow, limited intelligence Sotomayor, because Obama wanted her. Democrats don’t play the game the same way. We should learn from them.
Trump Fulfills Conservative Wishes With Supreme Court Shortlist

I don’t think Trump wants to use the nuclear option
Too easy
Like fishing with dynamite
Fight it out and win
If we restrain ourselves from using the nuclear option, there is still every chance that once they regain the Senate, the Dems will use it anyway

Bears repeating because it’s a 100% certainty.
The primaries ended long ago. Get over it. Cruz even offered to help coach Trump for the debates. You’re acting as bad toward Cruz as the Dems are acting towards Trump—only we won and they lost. Please don’t try to sabatoge our majority. You will be viewed as another McCain.
Either you are lying or you are ignorant. Which one is it?...
from his Facebook post on 9/23/16....
This election is unlike any other in our nations history. Like many other voters, I have struggled to determine the right course of action in this general election......After many months of careful consideration, of prayer and searching my own conscience, I have decided that on Election Day, I will vote for the Republican nominee, Donald Trump.
Ive made this decision for two reasons. First, last year, I promised to support the Republican nominee. And I intend to keep my word. Second, even though I have had areas of significant disagreement with our nominee, by any measure Hillary Clinton is wholly unacceptable thats why I have always been #NeverHillary....My conscience tells me I must do whatever I can to stop that. We also have seen, over the past few weeks and months, a Trump campaign focusing more and more on freedom including emphasizing school choice and the power of economic growth to lift African-Americans and Hispanics to prosperity.....Our country is in crisis. Hillary Clinton is manifestly unfit to be president, and her policies would harm millions of Americans. And Donald Trump is the only thing standing in her way.
A year ago, I pledged to endorse the Republican nominee, and I am honoring that commitment. And if you dont want to see a Hillary Clinton presidency, I encourage you to vote for him.
Funny that two months earlier than your quote, Cruz couldn’t even speak Trunp’s name nor endorse him at the GOP convention in Cleveland.
His tune then was “vote your conscience.”
This, in the face of a Hillary Presidency.
Cruz is the worst kind of political animal—one who is venal and banal, but tries to project virtue and moral superiority.
We have his number.
Thanks to DO and others for standing their ground on Lyin Ted. The nevertrumpers never got it and it looks like they neverwill. Ted will reach critical mass in his upcoming re-election bid, prepare to count the lies!
I agree. Crush them to dust. No quarter. Those who counsel restraint are weak and have defective memories.
Now read the article at the link.
You are exactly right.
They are all on their own side.
All we were getting is excuses.
Not with this guy.
I like how you described his can do spirit, and rapid implementation.
Onward!
D1
Such as his lie of omission in the 2016 election regarding his Canadian citizenship?
He's hoping Texans will forget about that by 2018.
I know...and if Trump looks vulnerable in 2019 then Ted will run. He’s a mercenary, but as of today and in the near future he WILL be on our side
Now apologize to me for you being an ass and commenting when you obviously didn't have a full grasp of the facts.
