Dems and Republicans unite to rescind Obama’s last-minute bomb; what was he thinking?

All 50 state secretaries of state are urging the Trump administration to rescind a last-minute Department of Homeland Security directive calling state election systems “critical infrastructure.”

Many state officials fear this is the first step toward a federal takeover of state-run elections, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned.

While deep political discord may be found on other issues, state secretaries — who oversee all election machinery — appear completely united against the former administration’s attempt to insert the federal government into state-run elections.

Then-Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson surprised and outraged state election officials with his Jan. 6 action, just two weeks before President-elect Donald Trump was to assume the presidency.

Johnson tried to portray his move as part of the Obama administration’s effort against Russian government hacking of Democratic Party emails during the presidential campaign.

But state officials retort that election machines and the infrastructure are not connected to the Internet and therefore are immune to cybersecurity attacks.

Incoming DHS Secretary John Kelly indicated in written testimony prior to his confirmation he was troubled by Johnson’s directive.

“The notion that DHS can or should exercise some degree of influence over state voting systems is highly controversial and appears to be a political question beyond the scope of DHS’ current legislative cyber mandates,” Kelly wrote.

The National Association of Secretaries of State, which represent secretaries in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and American Samoa, is planning to take up the DHS action at its next full meeting. It is scheduled to be held in Washington, D.C., in mid-February.

Association president Denise Merrill, who also serves as the secretary of state for Connecticut, told TheDCNF in an interview, “I’m certain this will be a hot topic among all of us.”

Can’t happen. The Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads:

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States, respectively, or to the people.”

The only way for the feds to “invade” state elections would be for another Amendment to the Constitution or rescind the 10th Amendment. And with a conservative congress and president in place, it ain’t gonna happen.

Possibly relevant:

The Georgia Secretary of State reported that there was an attempt to hack the voter registration system.

The IP address was . . . HOMELAND SECURITY!

(how 'bout them apples?)

State of Georgia accuses Homeland Security of attempted hack

(article notes that "some lawmakers" have "floated" the idea of DHS running elections)

If you are expecting 100 percent lack of fraud in all 50 states in an election, you’re going to have a lot of SOS folk in prison.

How about a realistic number or approach.

You want to be the one that certifies that 6 million people in a state ALL voted honestly and face prison if one didn’t.

I half heartedly agree with your assessment, however there were an Awful Lot of High Pollutant Government Officials from Multiple States SWEARING UP AND DOWN that NOT ONE VOTE WAS CAST ILLEGALLY, They were on every News Station across this Country, they need to be held Accountable CRIMINALLY if we are stop this rampant FRAUD.

If the media is reporting this as a good think I AM AUTOMATICALLY SUSPICIOUS.

There certainly needs to be some looking into voter fraud, and the libtards I fight with on FB are all using stupid paul ryan’s statments yesterday as ‘proof’ that there is no voter fruad.

“Oh well if Paul Ryan says so...”

Although they never take his word on anything else.

That dumbass needs to learn to STFU.

Jill Stein uncovered voter fraud with her recount- where there were more votes cast in some hilLIARy districts than there were voters that walked in the door. THATS PROOF RIGHT THERE.

Any districts where the vote total does not match the number of people who walked in the door should be thrown out- the whole district.

The Constitution’s delegated power to the states to oversee elections is not to negotiate about

An FBI investigation of illegal votes and vote fraud is a national issue

George Soros has been massively funding the campaigns that elect the state officials who run the state elections, to establish a network of compliant progressives

“High Pollutant”?? Maybe reaching for “highfalutin”? LOL

Maybe “high pollutant” is more apt given the propensity of politicians to exhale highly toxic vapors.

Many state officials fear this is the first step toward a federal takeover of state-run elections, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned.

Then clean up your own corrupt election process first.

If they say THAT, then #### em and put em in jail.

If you don’t even say “to the best of my knowledge” then to hell with you.

And I’ve been rethinking since I posted, 100 percent non fraudulent voting SHOULD be able to happen in this day and age.

A ####ing car can drive itself by downloading a trillion bits of information a second or minute, I forget which, then we can have 100 percent accurate elections.

I stand corrected.

Agreed!

I wonder how many Concealed Weapons Permits are issued to Illegal Aliens with Fraudulent Documents??
NONE
How many Illegal Aliens buy guns with fraudulent papers??
NONE

the Answer is NONE, Why? because it is VERY EASY to determine one’s Legal Status.

Shouldn’t it be the same for voting?

Maybe not in 1850, but in this DAY and AGE, it should be a joke to ensure 100 percent non fraudulent voting.

Picture license or State ID, all newly made and nearly impossible to replicate can be produced.

If you don’t present one, you don’t vote.

And I’m sure there’s better ideas out there.

But, more importantly and perhaps notably unrecognized, is unconstitutional!

If the illegals in CA left, the state would be red. 3/4 of the counties in CA voted for Trump. But that would not deter FReepers from wishing the state to slide into the Pacific Ocean killing everyone in the state including conservative Reagan/Trump supporters.

Free Republic’s founder and server would also fall into the Pacific in that scenario. It would take months for someone to start his own version of FR, and we would all be going crazy waiting for it.
