Suck it up.

American citizens are sent to jail everyday for committing crimes.

The spouse and kids are ‘on their own’ and if other arrangements cannot be made they become wards of the state.

The illegals should be given maybe 180 days to register or voluntarily leave and be put on ‘top’ of the list to return legally.

I would even say if someone had a clean record, has employment and NOT on any Government Assistance and is contributing to Society and they are established in a community maybe some compensation can be made IF they register on time.

If a drag on the economy, they have to be shown the door.
Likewise, a criminal record.
The larger the criminal record the longer before you can apply for reentry.

If ‘we’ have to come and get you and forcibly deport you, you may never get back at least you don’t get on the list till you repay the cost involved in deporting you.

OF COURSE, without securing the borders all of this is moot.

NO, under the laws we have if they leave voluntarily they can get on the end of the list.
If we have to deport them it is a 10 year wait before they can apply to get on the back of the list.
We should not change our laws to accommodate those breaking them. We did that in 1968 and it resulted in 10 times the number of illegal aliens and a general disregard of all of our laws by foreigners.
