ACLU seeks copy of proposed changes to US election law

The American Civil Liberties Union asked a federal court to force Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach to turn over proposed changes to the nation’s voter registration law that the conservative Republican was photographed bringing to a meeting in November with Donald Trump.

That draft document — which is partially obscured by Kobach’s left arm and hand in the photograph taken by The Associated Press — is being sought as part of the ACLU’s lawsuit challenging Kansas’ restrictive voter registration law. The ALCU filed its request for the proposed amendments late Monday.

Kobach has championed Kansas’ proof-of-citizenship requirement as an anti-fraud measure that keeps noncitizens from voting, including immigrants living in the U.S. illegally. Critics argue such requirements suppress voter turnout, particularly among young and minority voters, and that there have been few cases of fraud. …

a few cases of fraud is a few cases too many , imho.

Too bad the ACLU can’t be banned along with CAIR and the NAACP. They all lie to further their agendas on our dimes.

About damn time.

It should work this way:
1) You can vote if you’re a citizen
2) You need to show ID proving it
3) The form of ID must be trustworthy as a method of determining citizenship.

He’s just begging for a complete investigation into the three million illegals who voted for Hillary in 2016. I’ll bet they could turn up all three million by name and phony address.

Until we have certain measures (e.g. id required) we may never know how much fraud there is.

Isn’t it about time the ACLU gets audited and/or investigated as a known communist front group?

You have to have ID to do anything else! How does this suppress anyone that is legal to vote? I am sure it does suppress people planning to cheat and that is it!

If there is something wrong with requiring IDs to vote then the same thing is wrong about requiring ID for any reason.

Release it! The people deserve to know!

Oh. never mind...

and that there have been few cases of fraud. …

I suspect about 30 million, more than half, of the votes counted for Hillary Clinton were fraudulent.

If you compare Trump's votes with the attendance at his rallies, then use the same formula to compare the attendance at Hillary's rallies with her actual votes, she would have received far less than 30 million actual votes.

I can't prove my contention, and nobody who disagrees with me can prove otherwise.

And that is why we need to clean up registration fraud and voter fraud, and enforce voter ID and voting laws across the nation.

We need the following changes to our election laws, which Congress should be able to pass in a Constitutional manner by stressing the sole goal of “one citizen, one vote” in any election (primary or general) in which one or more candidates for federal office appear on the ballot:

1) Federal immigration authorities MUST give information to all state election boards as to which particular people are resident here who are NOT citizens.

2) Criminal penalties, AND revocation of the right to be present in this country, for any foreign citizen who even completes a voter registration application.

3) Social Security Administration MUST provide each state of all registered deaths in its system - going back to the inception of the SSA. Revoke the ability of the dead to vote.

4) Forced exchange of information between states to make sure that people moving from State A to State B are only registered in one of the two states. Feds pay for all expenses, to avoid charges/challenges based on unfunded mandates.

5) Picture ID required upon BOTH registration AND at the voting booth. Those who cannot afford it (and they’ll have to prove it by being on welfare, food stamps, etc.) will be given such ID free of charge by the feds.

6) Thumb or other finger to be dipped in indelible ink upon leaving the polling place.

7) SEVERE penalties for anyone caught voting more than once, or funding/otherwise aiding anyone else to do so. “Severe” as in it is a felony offense, with immediate lifetime revocation of voting rights in all federal elections. If it is found that any organization with tax free status is involved in promoting or aiding voter fraud, such tax free status is to be revoked retroactive to the beginning of the year of the incident(s) in question, with all donors to such organization having their donations being similarly retroactively treated as NOT being tax deductible. Also, there is to be a fine of $10,000.00 per proven case of fraud.

8) Revocation of “Motor-Voter” law - this ONLY encourages voter fraud. You want to vote, citizen? Good, then make the effort to register to vote with your local or state VOTING authorities.

It IS burdensome, especially for women. First of all, in order to get a driver’s license you have to produce a birth certificate and verify your address with an unopened piece of mail or two, or in some cases even three.

In order to register to vote, you have to produce your driver’s license, your birth certificate, and if you are female with name changes, you have to prove the paper trail for the name changes which also means marriage licenses or divorce papers.

If a woman has been married more than once, she has to bring them all, or take photos on the phone and send them to the voter registration place after you’ve filled out the initial paper work.

Since men keep their last names, men don’t have to go through all this. But to have to produce a birthcert is redundant, because you already had to do that to get your driver’s license in the first place.

If for some reason you don’t happen to have these papers whether through your own negligence or through no fault of your own, then you have to purchase them. Many of them require identification which you can’t get unless you have the papers!! Furthermore, these papers can cost a small fortune, something not everybody has these days due to the job market being what it is.

My birthcert costs $40 if you have to have it mailed to you, and half as much if you request it in person. And that’s even if you send a SASE! I’m not sure what the costs are for a duplicate marriage license or divorce papers, or adoption papers, or naturalization/citizenship papers...it can most certainly be a huge PITA! But you have to have several papers more than men do if you’re a female.

The fact that I happen to have mine made it slightly more convenient. I don’t ever recall having to produce papers (Heil Hitler!) to register to vote, before in any of the other states I’ve ever lived in. My driver’s license maybe but that’s it.

I resent having to produce ‘papers’ at all! It smacks of WW2 Germany and Communits Russia to me.

On the other hand, because I do have my papers, and had to go through a great deal of inconvenience to acquire them as well as financial hardship, I see no reason why others can’t do so also if in fact we must have our ‘papers’. Freedom isn’t always free, and when something costs you something, it tends to be more cherished.

I do think it could be more streamlined though. Since you have to prove yourself to get the driver’s license, social security cards, etc, you shouldn’t have to produce them all again and again and again.

I don’t know about you, but I deeply resent having to produce a driver’s license to get medical care, even if *I* am the one paying the bill! Now THAT’s crimimal!

ok..done for now.
