It’s not a 21 Gun Salute. Those are reserved for heads of state, and are literally 21 separate firings.

What you’re all thinking of is called a “Three Shot Volley” which is usually done by 7 soldiers.

A 21 gun salute could be very expensive with all those artillery shells being fired but that custom is rare and reserved for very important people. What the author is really talking about is a three-volley salute and you could probably find volunteers to perform that function.

21 guns? I thought three volleys was the standard honors.

Call on local reenacting communities, I’m sure they would be proud to assemble a group and provide the salutes.

My stepfather was a WWII Navy officer. His color guard was active duty, but they lived close to a base.

dan’l must be very depressed since he spent the past couple of years with his head up the butt of illery and hussein; counted on that getting his little self the ambassadorship of Ireland.

Boo hoo!

.... think this should still be an active duty detail available to vets and families upon request.....with full military honors by active duty soldiers in Class A uniforms...

Absolutely.

My Father in law, who retired from the Army, was buried in his uniform as he requested, and he received full military honors. When I thanked the leader of the detail, I told him that he was a medic on the front lines in Korea for a year and a half, he was visibly moved.

>> Too Costly

Dear Connecticut,

Fortunately for you, the service members who you are refusing to honor did not find it too costly to give years of their lives, and often life itself to defend your freedom.

It’s pathetic that this is the first place you look to cut the budget.

Sincerely,
one who served
