Deion Sanders Blames ‘Reverse Racism’ for Pats WR Julian Edelman Being Under Appreciated
Breitbart ^ | January 22, 2017 | Trent Baker

Posted on 01/23/2017 3:31:31 AM PST by monkapotamus

Former NFL and MLB star Deion Sanders said on NFL Network that white Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is the victim of “reverse racism,” thus vastly overlooked as one of the better players in the league as a result...

“I’m not lying. This is real talk. Julian Edelman, just because he is a caucasian receiver, they don’t give him the credit that he deserves. He deserves so much more. This kid can flat out play. [There] hasn’t been an answer for him over the last several years. Julian Edelman moves chains, he can get deep, he works between the numbers, works outside the numbers, he can throw the football, he can can run the football — he can do it all, man.”

While I understand what DS is saying, IMO there is no such thing as “reverse racism”. That term implies that only one particular race can be racist against another. Racism is racism.

He may or may not be correct about Edelman being under appreciated but the idea that it is due to “reverse racism” is just nutty. Racism? Maybe, maybe not. Reverse racism - there is no such thing. Racism is racism and it will do just fine in this case. If needed.

I think he’s trying to backhandedly promote racism without using that exact word...

Heckuva distinction you make. And Deion’s remarks prove that the leftist warp on the world is that only the whites can be racist. We’re so used to hearing this crap that I didn’t even pick up on it till you pointed it out. Thx

If he can convey his point, which he does, and his point is good, which it is, I think that criticizing the semantics only serves to distract from the main point.

I’m grateful somebody in his position has the chops to speak out against injustice even if his manner of expressing it is not the platonic ideal.

If white people are underappreciating white people it is a strange situation.

but platonic ideals exist so we can virtue signal and create talking points with no substance...

It’s called racism. There is no such thing a “reverse racism”.

in all actuality, it has nothing whatsoever to do with racism, however it is couched; it has everything to do with stereotyping, and the unshakable opinion among football gurus that only blacks can play the game at a high level...few years ago a local white high school player put eye popping numbers on the season, and in the next town, a black player followed a spectacular junior year with a completely mediocre one, and sat out games against the toughest teams...guess who got the scholarship to the division one college...?

all because no one in football dares speculate past the stereotype...

Reverse racism - there is no such thing. Racism is racism and it will do just fine in this case.

While you are both correct, Deion understands that the term "racism" has been bastardized to mean Whites against Blacks and reverse racism is a valid construct under the bastardized, and most common, meaning.

I respect him for coming out and saying it - it's another small step towards returning words to meaning what the dictionary originally defined them as.

Is Edelman underappreciated? Any time I’ve watched the Patriots, you constantly hear his name because he’s such a great player. Same with Gronk.

I don’t think Deion is married now. What he is talking about is similar to the legal definition of reverse discrimination so he may have coined a new term but the concept isn’t that far off.
