Having spent some time wading through his Facebook page, to me it seems more likely than anything else that the man is either schizophrenic or suffering some sort of drug induced delusion. Expecting consistency might not be entirely reasonable.
I want to wait and see what comes out after police interviews and at his eventual trial. Until then, some sort of Islamist ideology seems quite plausible to me - but so does just plain insanity.
I also wonder if he was attempting suicide by cop - he drove in circles repeatedly around an intersection literally surrounded by known terrorism targets - and he upped the ante when they wouldn’t shoot him.
