With the official swearing in of Donald Trump less than 24 hours away, the president-elect is wasting no time following up on his campaign promise to reduce government spending and start completing projects "under budget".
Trump's press secretary Sean Spicer held a briefing with reporters today to deliver an update on the transition process and readiness of the president-elect to take office. He started by introducing Vice President-elect Mike Pence, who told reporters that the process has been completed "on schedule and under budget".
"We will actually return some 20 percent of taxpayer funding back to the U.S. Treasury, and that is exactly in keeping with the president-elect's expectations going forward," Pence said. He continued by stating that Trump knew how to "sharpen his pencil" (despite how mainstream reporters have been portraying him) and they are pleased to announce they will be returning a portion of the taxpayer money allocated for their transition costs back to the U.S. Treasury.
With the outgoing Obama administration accumulating more national debt than all previous presidents combined, when was the last time you heard about the government actually giving back taxpayer money to the treasury department? Something tells me if this were Hillary Clinton's transition team, they would have found a way to spend those extra dollars (or pocket the funds themselves).

Sean Spicer spoke later on and also accused Democrats of employing delay tactics in the confirmation process for President-elect Trumps cabinet nominees. Democrats trying to sabotage and incoming Republican administration? I'm shocked.
With Donald Trump already delivering on campaign promises in the months before taking office, including negotiating with companies to create tens of thousands of American jobs, the next 8 years should be a revolutionary time for the country as the voters see what our government can do when led by a businessman who puts America first.
Those greedy bastards................oh. Never mind.
Drain
The
Swamp
So they aren’t going to spend the rest on hookers and blow?
Well... This feel weird. Almost like people that actually know how to handle money.
Who would have thunk?
Big Media will be desperate to use the word “unexpected” again, now in a derogatory manner, rather than with the breathless awe they needed to use when defending their god’s failed policies the past eight years.
A good example. Sadly a drop in the bucket of the financial hole we are in, but a good example none the less.
One of the “rules” that has been out there for decades was, no matter what the agency or actual need, never return unused budget, as next fiscal year you would get less. This has led to huge waste (buy supplies that were not needed, etc), and points out a real problem with our budget process.
I’m sure Hillary would have done the same. /s
Too much winning it hurts. Need pain killers. Aspirin not strong enough.
Wait! You might need that to replace missing furniture.
“...as Trump puts the Obama administration to shame showing them how to actually manage a budget.”
MANAGE a budget? 0bama & Crew didn’t even PASS a budget until 2015! Seven YEARS after it was due.
With no repercussions. Well, except to We The People...but that was by design. ;)
MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN by being UNDER BUDGET, AHEAD OF SCHEDULE!
This seems almost surreal. Returning unused funds to the Treasury.
Has this ever happened before? I doubt it.
Govt agencies and depts typically go on a spending spree at the end of a budget year to make sure they spend every last penny.
Unfortunately, we won’t hear anything about it on the MSM. I’ll bet Lou Dobbs & Hannity mention it, but that’s about all.
The Trump Doctrine:
“Ahead of schedule, under budget”
The Trump Philosophy:
“Winners aren’t losers”
but... but... the left says Trump is only doing this in enrich himself further!
this doesn’t make sense...
well... not if you are a lefty !
This return of money is indicative of a style where they know there's not an endless supply of money, especially in a private venture, and that extra money that appears out of a budget can be diverted to more productive uses.
How come you posted your blog stuff in the news section?
A good example. Sadly a drop in the bucket of the financial hole we are in, but a good example none the less.
More than just a good example, it’s first step towards setting the tone and re calibrating expectations on how government projects should be run and changing the world view and mindset of how things operate.
Donald Trump already has the ball rolling on this when it comes to American manufacturing. For two decades the corporate mindset default position has been to ship production offshore whenever possible for a large number of reasons.
Trump has put a check on that mindset and if ( a very big if, BTW) he can convince Congress to adopt his energy plans and pass laws rescind economically damaging tax, environmental and workplace that kill American manufacturing and pass new ones that encourage and not punish domestic manufacturing and make American a manufacturing friendly country again he may just pull it off.
“...Trump puts the Obama administration to shame showing them to actually manage a budget...”
Agreed, but I think he’s going to show the entire D.C. establishment how to manage a budget, which is why both sides of the isle, the entire bureaucracy and the MSM are losing their minds. They have been living high on the hog at our expense for decades and Trump is going to stop that as of Monday morning.
Business as usual is about to end in D.C. There’s a new sheriff in town.
Go Trump! MAGA!
But I'm not nearly tired of it yet. Keep going.
