Lack of power has profound implications for Democrats. Power is the Partys raison dêtre and sine qua non. Without power the party is broke and broken.
Consider, for example, one crucial element of their reliance on identity politics, specifically, organized labor. Organized labor is perhaps the single most important and dependable factor in the Democratic Partys long-term success. In fact, Britains equivalent of the Democrat Party is called the Labour Party.
Democrats rely on a perverse variation of voluntary exchange. In exchange for votes, campaign contributions, and election workers, Democrats deliver legislation and regulations favorable to unions. The system works well for both entities, but it only works so long as Democrats have the power to keep their part of the bargain.
On the other side of the quid pro quo, there has to be a sufficient population of union members in order to generate an adequate amount of campaign funds. Unfortunately for the Democrats, the percentage of the U.S. labor force in unions has declined from 20 percent in 1983 to 11 percent now. Less than seven percent of the private workforce is unionized. Thirty-five percent of government employees are union members, but that too is in jeopardy. When President Trump fills the current Supreme Court vacancy, mandatory union dues could well be ruled unconstitutional. That could be a double whammy reduced union membership and a reduced supply of campaign funds. Trump has said that he wants to reduce the federal workforce by 20 percent. What a glorious accomplishment that would be.

If they get voter ID, the GOP stays in power.
The last and only shot Obama has is to arrange a nuclear terrorism act that kills everyone at the inauguration. Since I have not heard Obama intends to skip that, it won’t happen.
Do you think that a possible run by Thiel may have any sort of chance to at least turn the rudder? Something there has to break and it will. The question is how long?
“How the workers are benefited”
Maybe a hundred to 75 years ago. Now it seems like the workers are held hostage or perhaps just fleeced. At least that’s my perception looking in from the outside.
Like the utopian Marxism or even the idyllic concept of Communism there is, and always has been one fatal flaw in both theory and institution that has, and continues to historically thwart any attempt to establish the theory of Marx and Engles (along with very serious theoretical shifts from Trotski, Lenin, Stalin, Mao... at el). And that plainly and simply boils down to (drum roll please)... humans are involved in high places and with that comes megalomania and tyrannical outcomes. Hence the absolute requirement of checks and balances and vigilant protection of the (a) Constitutional Republic. There has and will continue to be attempts to work around that system and turn it. But it must not be so. That said, there may be some fundamental changes that need to be reinstated in out society that have been deviously neutered. We live in interesting times indeed.
Last, but by no means, least......seems the road to the White House DOES NOT go through the illegal latino “Kommuknitee.”
I think that even back then, the times were a changing.
The industries those people were in were already looking for better people to do the jobs, and if you were someone who could work harder or smarter than the next guy, your wage was going up. Other industries were already pulling the go-getters out of the fields and moving them up the ladder.
The unions were promising that if you were a sluggard, you would get the pay of the hard worker with out actually doing what he did. And if you were a really lousy sort, you could become a floor warden for the union and do NO work, but get paid like the rest.
And we end up with guys on a assembly line, making as much as a school teacher or policeman or a military person on deployment.
I remember the video I saw of a union floor meeting in Michigan where an individual stood up and says he deserved the same type of retirement and medical benefits as any soldier because he had stood his time on the assembly line just like the soldier had did his time. And the crowd cheered him on.
Another long term loss of power for the Dem Party is Trump’s border control. If he is able to build an effective Wall, the long term prospects for party growth are stifled.
Many (most?) democrat voters are pro-abortion and engage in the procedure. Therefore, they reduce their own upcoming generational populations with similar political beliefs. They have countered this problem (for them) by allowing illegal aliens nearly unfettered access to the country and undocumented access to the ballot box.
If the Wall is effective and immigration policy is reformed, it will be another long term detrimental effect on the Democrat Party population. Since this is the major plank Trump ran on, this explains why the Dem’s are so violently opposed to Trump.
I love this final paragraph in the referenced article. Yes, maybe they can break the Old Testament record of 40 years in the wilderness. Wouldn't that be sweet.
Democrats were literally drunk on power. Now they have a puking hangover.
And the Snowflakes are being held hostage by the Demoncrats...
and bitter but not remorseful.
Look at New York, hundreds of “union shops” have filed WARN notices and have pulled out of this rancid state to relocate to Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina, Texas and other sun belt states and have left the Unions behind...other union disputes have left workers high and dry, and what happens when the 26 weeks of unemployment runs out? And during who’s administrations has this occurred?
This election cycle for Dems: If a voter knew which bathroom they were supposed to use, they had no reason to vote for a Democrat.
A death by political correctness.
I’m hoping Hawaii starts going red, i’ve heard parts of Oahu, the nw or leeward side has had explosive GOP growth recently as well as Kona on the Big Island. I wish so much for a small tropical estate that isn’t croc and python filled nor on an old lava flow.
Losing Power Has Left the Democrat Party Dazed and Confused>>>>>>>>>>>>>
There is no Democrat Party. Pbama removed all the old genuine democrats from positions of authority, especially in 2008-2010, whichi he did INSTEAD of using them for as force of traditional bipartisan compromise in Congress. They were purged.
Now we have aparty whichi is controlled by hefty lefties. They are not “Democratic.” They are utopian liberal dascists who wish to define adversaries as inhuman, ignorant and deplorable. The true dems who remain tried to oust Nancy Pelosi and failed.
The Democrat Party is no longer.
But the left is dazed and confused because America rejected there assumed moral superiority, their political correctmess, whcih is now delightfully being dismantled by President Trunpday by day, using the most inoccuous of mediums, the humble tweet. The MSM can no longer redefine the Presidency, Congress or foreign nations in theeir own desired imagery. In short the media can no longer hoodwink America.
Its not the Democrat party whichi is confused. The Democratic Party knows what to do with its zany non democrats: GET RID OF THEM.
But we Republicans are simply ecstatic that the left is still obfuscating the Democrat Party. Let them be dazed and confused, for in doing so they are assuring 16 years of Republican Presidencies.
We have to finish them off politically in the 2018 midterms.
Their sedition and perfidy cannot go unanswered.
Politico “Democrats in the Wilderness”
Why would anyone think she would win?? Cuz it was all about numbers...
Had the pollsters not lied....per HER instructions...she might have won.
She needs to look in a mirror...so she can see that big "L".
I am not seeing dazed and confused. I am seeing dangerous, mean, bitter leftists who will want a return to power at all costs.
I am seeing leftists manipulated by their puppeteers baying and forming into packs for war.
Hey,
When the America hating marxist negro got elected, conservatives swallowed hard and behaved like civilized people.
Shoe is on the other foot and the libs are as was expected acting like spoiled children.
F-em.
