Government Motors has had a couple of breaks not necessarily available to other automobile manufacturers, but then, they were not forced to declare bankruptcy, for which there was certainly plenty of compelling reasons.

Not the least of which would have been to shed a LOT of the bloated retirement benefits that were WAY beyond the perks that most retirees receive.

Perhaps the remainder of what was once GM could have been picked up by a foreign corporation, as what happened with Chrysler.

GM filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy on June 11, 2009.
