The Coloured people sure like "impo'ent" names to call themselves: "Icon," "Mogul" "Diva"

I have yet to see one article that did not refer to Lewis as an "icon."

I have lots of icon on my Smart phone. I don't recall seeing any of Lewis.

Frankly, I am from the civil rights era, and I was relatively active in the civil rights activities on campus, and I had never heard of John Lewis. King, Bond, Marshall, Randolph, even a minor newcomer like Jackson, yes; but Lewis? Never.
