Obama and other former presidents have SS protection until the day they die. Their wives have it for 10 years after the former president’s death, and their children for X years after the father’s term is up.
I have been thinking lately that that scheduling was arranged when former presidents didn’t live forever (see Jimmy Carter). There should be an arrangement for former presidents like there is for regular folks collecting Social Security. If you make more than $X, you have to pay $X toward your SS protection.
There is NO reason Bill Clinton (and, soon,, Obama) should be making millions of $ per year and having the U.S taxpayer pay for their protection. If they go on a tour, speaking engagement where they are being paid, the cost of that SS protection should be taken from the speaking fee.
Glad I’m on vaca this week. Rush hour is bad enough without that.
