Except the Syrian rebellion was created by us doing Saudi and gulf state bidding. They are full supporters of the rebel movement. They want Assad gone. They don’t want to take his place. So that leaves one option. They want a sunni state in place of Assad.
I don’t understand our goals in Syria and I hate to sound like a Saudi apologist, but a Saudi Arabian goal of preventing Iranian advancement would at least be logical. That plus a desire to placate Sunni extremists would seem to me to match their actions.
