General Motors Co. this week will announce plans to invest at least $1 billion across several U.S. factories, two people familiar with the plan said, a move aimed at underlining its commitment to U.S. manufacturing jobs in the wake of President-elect Donald Trumps criticism of the auto makers imports from Mexico.
GMs announcement could come as early as Tuesday, the people briefed on the plan said. The company will cite a number of new jobs in excess of 1,000 stemming from the investment but doesnt plan to specify which of its factories are in line for more work, one person said.
A GM spokesman declined to comment. The Trump transition team didnt immediately return a request for comment.

Winning.
Being a Corvette fan, this pleases me much.
No more! It hurts
Taxpayer $$$$$?
didn’t we give them $30B in March 2009?
They’re only promising what’s already planned. What they’re going to find out is Trump is smarter than that and expect no less than 3B.
Screw ‘em. I will NEVER buy a GM product from that timeline.
Stop it Trump you’re killing me.
So, will the preferred stock and bondholders get their property back now?
Government Motors should have been shuttered in 2008 and the tax payers should have never bailed them out.
You are right this is a drop in the bucket but it is a win however minuscule it may be. These crumbs being thrown out by US car makers are supposed to placate Trump and throw a wrench in the plans for an import tariff. They hope it will be business as usual after we all forget about our anti globalist push to get Trump elected. I do not think it will work.
BigCorp sucks up to whomever is in power. Good choice GM. Maybe you can finally live up to “Professional Grade.”
They’ve come a long way since their rebirth as Obama Motors.
Think of global Big Cap corporations as Non Government Organizations(NGOs) and not business entities.
Agree. They are trying to pull the wool over Trump.
1000 more jobs? For GM this is very small. Very small.
GM is trying to get PR value for very few jobs added.
I wouldn’t be surprised that Trump reaches a deal where while some small car production can continue in Mexico and shipped to the USA without tariff, any high-profit auto vehicle (higher end sedans, SUV’s and light trucks) will have to be manufactured in the USA. This means Honda can keep its Celeya, Mexico plant building the Fit and HR-V, but all Civics, Accords, CR-V’s, Pilots and Ridgeline models sold in the USA have to be built in the USA (except for the high-end Acura models coming in from Japan).
We want all back Ray. All of it.
