MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - The Department of Public Safety on Monday identified the man who shot and wounded a trooper near Tonopah last week and confirmed that he was in the country illegally.

Leonard Penuelas-Escobar, 37, “is a known drug user but has no criminal history that we can find,” Col. Frank Milstead, the director of DPS, said during a news conference.

“We showed that he attempted to cross the border on one occasion and was turned back,” Milstead said. “We also have information that leads us to believe that in 2007 he was actually a federal police officer for the Mexican Police.”

The lady who died was his girl friend and both were involved with drugs and petty crime.

Much more at the link including a 17-minute video of the AZ DPS chief giving details of the incident. His rendition is alternately chilling and uplifting detailing the events leading up to the shooting of the officer and the coincidental arrival of the Good Samaritan on scene. It is a compelling video well worth the time to listen.

So Mexico has devolved to the point where it is considered an OK thing to kill people in order to get away with petty crimes.

Sounds like just the place I want to go on my next vacation!

El Sarco Grande!

I had a feeling we would find out he was an illegal alien.
McCain and crew want more of this, that’s why they have kept the borders open and the laws unenforced for so long trying to force us to give these people amnesty.

Escobar, involved with drugs, had been in the country in AZ for several years and lived in Glendale. His girl friend, born in PHX, was also a drug user and wanted for petty crimes

It took awhile for me to make it clear that this was the same incident where the attacker was killed by the Good Samaritan. Weird how they speak in the present tense in the headline and the article.

The Good Samaritan shot the bad guy and wounded him, but he wouldn’t give up the fight, so he gave him one last one to the head. Good shooting Citizen!

A bit more about the Good Samaritan - the DPS chief describes him as a humble and deeply spiritual man who is trying to come to understand that he took a life, even though it was proper to do so in this situation. He has neither police or military training or background, but goes to the range several times a year for proficiency.

I knew it was something like that.

It took what, three days just to name the criminal.

Ok, we have a lot more of the story. It will be interesting to see what they find in the car. Can of strange with his girlfriend severely hurt that he would shoot the officer.

” the DPS chief describes him as a humble and deeply spiritual man..”

Daniel 11:32 (NIV) ~ But the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

Zechariah 12 v8: On that day the LORD himself will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the weakest among them will be like mighty David,

This good man was like David in that moment when he helped that Trooper. I wish I could encourage him personally.

The DPS chief also said the Samaritan at some time in the future will come forward as he knows he will be outed, but is not ready at this time.

Just one more example of Mexicans proving Trump was right about Mexico exporting their criminals into the USA. Even their LEOs are murderous drug-addled criminals.

Shooting police officers is one of those quaint customs we have been importing from south of the border.

Send congratulations to Dubya and Obama and the rest of the Amnesty/Treason Lobby that have done so much Make America 3rd World

In the infamous 1970 Newhall CA shooting, in which 4 troopers were shot to death a passerby, Gary Knaus(?) took some shots at the scumbag criminals.

"Leonard Penuelas-Escobar, 37, “is a known drug user but has no criminal history that we can find"

Goes to show what a problem we have with crime in the US today. The guy's an illegal alien, and a drug user. That's a "criminal history" if I've ever seen one. It just happens that this criminal has no previous convictions. He obviously should have.
