They are some of the biggest names in the Republican national security firmament, veterans of past GOP administrations who say, if called upon by President-elect Donald Trump, they stand ready to serve their country again.

But their phones aren’t ringing. Their entreaties to Trump Tower in New York have mostly gone unanswered. In Trump world, these establishment all-stars say they are “PNG” — personae non gratae.

Their transgression was signing one or both of two public “Never Trump” letters during the campaign, declaring they would not vote for Trump and calling his candidacy a danger to the nation.

...

During a national security forum last week at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, K.T. McFarland, who was named Trump’s deputy national security adviser, opened her remarks by referring to the “elephant in the room.”

“Most of the people in this room didn’t support Donald Trump — maybe not at first or maybe ever,” she said. “And I suspect most of the people in this room didn’t think he’d win. But he has.”

Some of the “Never Trump” letters signers fear they are at the bottom of the pecking order, below those who expressed verbal opposition to Trump’s campaign but did not sign either of the letters.

If anyone still has doubts. This is what it look like to not be the establishment anymore. We are the establishment. Trump is the establishment. Keep moving forward everyone, from the city councils, the school boards, the states, and the national levels.

I'm amazed. Is it ignorance or arrogance? Trump would be guilty of political malpractice if any were allowed within a mile of his administration.

They did their best to help Trump's enemies, made it harder for him to win.

Do they believe they are indispensable?

Don't call us, we'll call you.

That’s where they should be - blacklisted. With the establishment against him, he needs people who will support him. They were willing to toss our country to Hillary, and I assume they thought they’d get a job with her. Epic fail. Elections have consequences.

What bothers me is that the think tanks these people work for still have OTHER staffers in the running for posts in the Trump organization. I would also blacklist anybody from any organization these letter signers are involved with.

People like Tom Ridge are obviously going to have influence with the people around them, and I don’t want him and his anti-Trump attitudes tainting people in the administration or trying to be puppet masters.

"What did they expect?" is right.

Idiots.

Those drained from the swamp trying to swim back in are surprised that they can’t? Good riddance,

The people who irritated me the most on election night coverage were the ‘never Trumper’s’ who boasted about not voting for Trump.

Names I recognize. Daniel Pipes...that’s a disappointment. Tom Ridge...not a surprise. Good riddance. As to the rest I assume they are part of the vast bureaucracy none of us would recognize but are there in droves. From what I recall Trump has 4000 positions to fill. Going by what the cabinet is shaping up to be he will do a great job and it won’t include these self eliminating idiots.

What is astonishing is that these folks are "some of the biggest names in the Republican national security firmament."

How did they earn that name? Was it strategic and political perspicacity - special insights into the organization of world affairs or the correlation of forces (a communist strategic term) to enable them to render advice and judgments on how to dispose of issues?

Obviously not. They underrated Trump and over-rated themselves, such is their talent for "estimates" as Sun Tzu uses the term. They over-rated the forces of immigration and underrated the interests of the American citizen.

One suspects that these "leading lights" are just more of the same, folks who have ended up doing well while doing nothing much at all, just going to the establishment parties and mooching off the taxpayer.

lowest ion the pecking order?

They have earned the right to not even be in the order. Their names are not even in the hat.

And, deservedly so.

Faithless as wholes.

Which is why Trump should also blacklist hires from any organizations they work for. Those think tanks they work for will drop them like a hot potato. Let them go on the news trashing him without the gravitas of representing any think tank or conservative group.
