The last year has taught us, with Brexit, the US elections, growing anti-EU sentiment on the continent of Europe, that ignoring national interests, which are more and more often expressed in terms of national culture and identity, is not possible anymore. Will this translate through into the reconstruction of economic protectionism? Professor Steve Keen, from the University of Kingston, an economist and an author answers this question. Are identity and culture the new important subjects in politics? Professor Keen gives an explanatory answer. To him, a progressive form of identity and gender politics and socialist politics have been bedfellows for the past 40 years.

One of the clearest examples is in France, he says, where you have Hollande; a socialist leader imposing austerity whilst talking about progressive attitudes to identity politics. Progressive identity politics has been tainted with the brush of austerity politics imposed by the European Union.

The socialists have been sunk by it, with a resurgent Marine Le Pen benefiting from the support of middle aged white farmers, and white workers in America supporting Trump. It was a massive mistake, Professor Keen says, for the ‘left’ to align itself with neoliberal economics and failed economic policies which are now falling apart. The centre left, Professor Keen continues, which has been the mainstream socialist thought for some time are basically saying that we have to get into power, and then make capitalism work better.

This is a complete travesty, because success was only brought about by leveraging unsuccessful economies. They ended up deregulating the financial sector, and the next thing they know, economies come crashing down. There is identification of failed social policy with the failed neoliberal policy. The main sufferers have been what is used to be called the industrial workers, they are now saying that if you can’t protect us, we are going across to the people who might be able to. They might be ugly but they might allow us to throw a political hand grenade into the system to wake up those Americans who have been neglected ideologically by the left and also because they have actually lost their jobs to benefit people in China, as Trump has been arguing.

8 men own as much as 50% of the world

It's a corrupt system (money printed from nothing) designed to funnel wealth to the top. I could be convinced to let them keep what they have if they would just stay they hell out of my life and out of our political processes. I don't think they can do that though. It's almost like they are genetically built to never be satisfied.

“Our cruel and unrelenting Enemy leaves us no choice but a brave resistance, or the most abject submission; this is all we can expect - We have therefore to resolve to conquer or die: Our own Country's Honor, all call upon us for a vigorous and manly exertion, and if we now shamefully fail, we shall become infamous to the whole world. Let us therefore rely upon the goodness of the Cause, and the aid of the supreme Being, in whose hands Victory is, to animate and encourage us to great and noble Actions - The Eyes of all our Countrymen are now upon us, and we shall have their blessings, and praises, if happily we are the instruments of saving them from the Tyranny meditated against them. Let us therefore animate and encourage each other, and shew the whole world, that a Freeman contending for Liberty on his own ground is superior to any slavish mercenary on earth.” ― George Washington

Get it straight, FRiend. I’m a bigot, not a racist.

You proudly proclaim to be a bigot?

Wikipedia: "The English noun bigot is a term used to describe a prejudiced or closed-minded person, especially one who is intolerant or hostile towards different social groups"

How very heroic that at least you're not a racist.

What about you? How many urban gang-bangers or illegal aliens do socialize with or invite to your backyard bar-b-ques? I’ll tell you how many, NONE.

Even though I'm white and my girlfriend is black, somehow I still manage not to socialize with "urban gang-bangers or illegal aliens". Imagine that.

Bigotry is, in a word, unchristian.

Additionally, it seems likely that such an attitude can only undermine President-elect Trump's stated goal of uniting the People of this country.

Bigots are not welcome on FR, IMHO, and I'd venture to say that the owner of this site would agree...

So do you discriminate? Are all behaviors equal? Are all ideas equal?

I don’t know about you, but I discriminate all the time and am a bigot.

Bigotry is unchristian? Wow? Jesus came to divide, not be inclusive.

You have a lot of the current world view in your perspective.

The words "bigotry" and "discrimination" are not synonymous, and therefore should not be conflated.

Last time I checked, bigotry carried a negative connotation, and rightly so, and I don't think that it requires "a lot of the current world view" in my perspective to arrive at that conclusion.

So do you discriminate?

Yes, and doing so does not make anyone a bigot.

Are all behaviors equal?

No, and holding that opinion doesn't make anyone a bigot.

Are all ideas equal? No, and holding that opinion doesn't make anyone a bigot.

Bigotry is unchristian?

Yes.

Wow? Jesus came to divide, not be inclusive.

...and He did every bit of it without being a bigot!

I have no idea what a “Wikipdiaphile” is, but I do believe that you are a douche of the highest order for involving yourself in this conversation.

So, since you have demonstrated an hard-on to involve yourself, please explain what exactly a “Wikipdiaphile” is and how you believe yourself to label me as such, and prove to the entire FR forum that you are not simply a mindless jackwagon running to defend “sargon” because you are the “middle-man” on his 3-man anal sex team.

Lord Almighty have mercy and defend us from such “do-gooders”.

I sincerely dislike jerks that feel compelled to involve themselves in matters, conversations, discussions or heated arguments that don’t concern them.

What are you, a liberal control freak? Can’t two people have a disagreement without an a$$hat like you trying to moderate it to your satisfaction?

You are not partner the conversation. Stay out of it and keep you “internet-phile” language out of it.

Thqnk you for you cooperation, Idiot.

The people finally realized that this new world order and climate change bullshit is all about weakening the USA so that they can impose a worldwide empire upon everybody. Communism is gone so now they are calling it democratic socialism because they really want the people to vote it in and say that’s what the people wanted.

This has been going on for a very long time and the prople are finally waking up. I’m glad that Donald Trump is able to fight back against the weakening of the USA. I just hope that there will be more politicians willing to really take on the system.

I’ll try to put it down at your level.

Wikipedia is a trove of opinion, not facts.

When you foist that site upon us as an authority on anything but contempt for reason, you belittle the forum.

If that was your intent, (which appears probable from your ignorant, arrogant tone) Then three Nancy Pelosis and four Barack obamas to you.

And the left has been defining words for how long? Where have you learned this negative connotation? Probably watching Archie Bunker?

What exactly is wrong with the definition?

a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions

We need more bigots, people that will stand for a position and are intolerant of inferior behavior, ideas.

Again, God are VERY intolerant. So much so that many are going to hell.

I hope you are kidding. If not I can only assume you would only do this because you have been conditioned to appear tolerant or to not offend anyone.

Creating new words and redefining words in a tactic of the left. It is for ONE PURPOSE, to disconnect us from our heritage.

Lets take a look at the classic definition of bigot:

a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions

We need more bigots, people who are firm in their opinions and will not waiver. Was Reagan a bigot? Do we get the idea the Trump is a bigot. Bigotry has been replaced by political correctness for so long that we have lost our heritage.

The crux is the application. Our heritage is to get those intolerant opinions out in the public square so we can get closer to the truth.

AS the poster said. I am a bigot, not a racist.

Why does this remind me of Luddites? I would encourage all to do some historical reading. History repeats itself, the same but different?
