The eruption of hostilities between President-elect Donald Trump and civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) may be recorded as just one more example of what has become standard Twitter retaliation for Trump.
But coming on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend, it also reignited the passions around Trumps difficult history with African Americans, the group of voters from whom he might be most alienated as he prepares to move into the White House this week.
In an interview with NBCs Meet the Press on Friday, Lewis said he did not regard Trump to be a legitimate president because of allegations that high-level Russian operatives interfered in the election on Trumps behalf. Trump lobbed back with a tweet in the early hours of Saturday morning that disparaged both the congressman and his district, which includes some of Atlantas most affluent neighborhoods.
Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart, Trump wrote. (Not to . . . in fact, he needed two tweets to finish the thought mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk no action or results. Sad!

Lewis is p**** because Hillary had promised him a really, really good position.
John Lewis is about 40 years past his expiration date.
As in:”Stick A Fork In Him;He’s Done”???
The WashinFake Post will be drumming any anti-Trump story — real or note — for eight long years.

Boom! Obama Administration shuts down Rep. John Lewis who said Trump was not legitimate
White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough says that President Obama has made it clear he believes Trump is “freely elected”.
“The president has made very clear that he believes that [Trump] is the freely elected president,” White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough told CNN’s Jake Tapper. “He will be inaugurated on Friday and he will come into office, hopefully, strengthened by the kind of transition that we’ve tried to run in this White House.”
The Obama administration distanced itself on Sunday from Democratic Rep. John Lewis, who said last week that President-elect Trump is not a “legitimate” president.
So a guy says something and Trump says something back, and it’s racist because a) the guy is black and b) it is MLK holiday next weekend? I guess I understand but not really.
Serious question:
Is there ANY grounds to think that Trump won’t support Blacks? It seems to me that this entire issue — 100% — is made up by the media to tell people “Trump is a racist”. I think it’s an utter fabrication.
Am I missing something? Is there anything? I have to say that as far as I can see, the logic is that “Trump is a racist because ... Trump is not a Democrat.”
Shameful journalism.
Trump in fact has a long history of associating with, supporting and being friends with high profile black Americans.
Not just Don King and Al Sharpton, but he was very close and good friends to various hip-hop moguls such as Russell Simmons and others.
He was liked by rappers and he hung out with them and even shared women with the hip-hop mogul friends.
I’m sure Hillary promised some high-level position and he is pissed he didn’t get it. Dems really do have the mental capacity of a two year old when they don’t get their way.
“Is there ANY grounds to think that Trump wont support Blacks? It seems to me that this entire issue 100% is made up by the media to tell people Trump is a racist. I think its an utter fabrication.”
It’s an utter fabrication. This is the Democrats default position on Republicans because it was the Democrats who were the racists and they now have to maintain the big lie. Mention Robert “KKK” Byrd to them and they call you racist for suggesting he was a racist.
Mr. Lewis started in on President Trump. He didn’t have to, he chose to do so.
President Trump has the right to respond.
Democrats are used to conservatives absorbing their abuse. President Trump is going to fight back. Democrats are agog that anyone would challenge them. Well, get used to it, snowflakes. There’s a new day dawning and the rules are no longer in effect which entitled democrats to the Il only say.
The fact that someone is a warmed-over 60’s hippie or a “civil rights icon” or whatever no longer makes them untouchable. Deal with it, because it ain’t gonna change back.
Trump has no feud with Lew-ass, Lew-ass has a feud with Trump.
I seen a picture with Trump receiving an award with Ali and a lady in New York...I don’t have it, maybe someone can post it...
Trump has done a lot with the Black Community all his life, and he ran on helping the Black Community, hence the reason he named Dr. Ben Carson to head HUD...along with Steve Harvey...
In liberal La La land, guys aren’t supposed to defend themselves against girls, and whites aren’t supposed to defend themselves against blacks. I’m glad we finally have a president who judges people by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin.
Names involved here sounded familiar:
“”Trumps difficult history with African Americans””
What an exaggeration! I had to read all the way to the end of the article to find that “DIFFICULT HISTORY”...a couple of isolated incidents related to the campaign and that was it! No wonder a substantial portion of the country doesn’t know what’s REALLY GOING ON...I thought I’d at least find out that he has a plantation disguised at Mira Lago and only has slaves working in the resort - working them 15-18 hours a day and feeds them bread and water.
Because DT made a fortune in the hospitality and entertainment industry on the backs of blacks and gays, don’t you know?
Trump has no notable “difficult history with african Americans “ predating his political race
Lewis would seem to have a difficult history with white republicans dating back 3 decades
Were did the idea that Trumps had had “a long, difficult relationship with African Americans” come from ??? Its been created by the dem for political reason
Up till Trump went up against the Dem.. he had no issue
Dem use blacks so they can use the race card for dem politics
