I would agree that there are ways to privatize, but the models so far are HORRIBLE. For example, why was a 75 YEAR ‘LEASE’ needed to allow a private company to operate the Indiana Toll Road (does it really take 75 years to amortize new toll booths on an existing highway)? Back in the early days of Cable TV the concessions were for 5 years - if the company was being jerks, the government at least had an option to do something when people started screaming.
Sorry, but I simply DO NOT TRUST POLITICIANS to protect our interests in these types of deals - there are far too many bad examples, relative to good examples. In fact, I cannot even think of a single good example.
If you want to call it Socialism, fine, I’ve been called MUCH WORSE when I was supporting Trump over Cruz in the early days of the Primaries nearly 2 years ago.

Private infrastructure with things like roads really doesn’t work well. I’ve done a bunch of historical study on the issue and only government run infrastructure tends to work long term due tragedy of the commons and rent seeking. This is also one of the few bright points for socialist nations is economic improvements caused to improved infrastructure, which is of course offset by everything else going to hell.
Running out of other people’s money
California can't run away from reality forever. Reality is real, and when Californians become ready for it, after exhausting every other option, it is important to be there.
the concession model is also bad - when I suggest privatize, I mean sell
Sounds great. Then, he should tax silicon vally businesses 100%. Then get that minimum wage up to 50 dollars an hour. California is sure a pretty state. Too bad it’s run by such morons.
Probably, but they aren’t related to any one important and therefore not under consideration.
Indeed. Every state job opening has hundreds applying for it, due to generous benefits including unrealistic pension giveaways. Create a new benefit tier for new employees, doing away with the expensive benefits, and that saves money for CalPers. There will still be more people applying for those jobs than are available. As for existing employees, the benefits are a contractural obligation so the state can only hope the employees die before siphoning away retirement funds. They created a mess; the least they can do is to stop it from continuing by denying new hires the goodies.
Run for the hills, is my advice. I escaped Mexifornia 2 years ago and settled in the beautiful Appalachians, surrounded by conservatives.
I have found paradise.
In just the 2 years since i left, CA has gone downhill rapidly - more 2A violations, taxes, protecting illegals. Now they are burdening all hardworking citizens with the expense of the bloated pensions for government ‘workers’!
Dude, you gotta emigrate to America someday.
I hate seeing you there in the hostile, Communist foreign nation of Californistan.
Was 187 that long ago? i was there, listening to the media saying polls showed it neck-and-neck, while it actually passed overwhelmingly.
That one prop would have not only fixed California, but the rest of the country’s invasion would have been stymied.
and the overpaid teachers have dumbed down students into mindless entitlement-grabbing liberals. The state even created a high school exit exam (only tests at the 8th grade level though) because kids were graduating without being able to read and write, after 12 years of these useless, overpaid teachers.
Even Governor Moonbeam knows that you can only generate real revenue by taxing the poor.
If you leave, the fascists in CA will still hound you, possibly.
I am livid!&
In California my husband and I had a small business. Moved here and sent a letter to the county there that we’ve moved, in 2014.
They have been hounding me ever since for business taxes - for the time I didn’t even live there! The first overpaid civil servant - on CalPERS of course - didn’t even find it ridiculous. The 2nd understood it but said I had to fill out more forms AND send in complete tax returns for 2014 & 2015. 2014 will show the business address in CA so why do they need it? 2015 will show the address here, so that I can see. But why do they want ALL the forms? Just the 1040 and schedule C will show the business was not in Tulare county. The rest is none of their business!
I hate that state. They don’t even let you leave! Hounding people for taxes that don’t even live there, giving illegals every free handout there is, and they don’t get why white people not on welfare are leaving in droves.
I asked to talk to a manager, we’ll see if they even call back. Jerks!
