Back in the day schools had "shop" that taught practical skills like woodworking and simple repairs to boys and "home economics" that taught girls about the basics of diet, nutrition, and how to shop, prepare, and cook tasty and healthy meals for their future families. But in our oh-so-sophisticated world these practical skills have become something of a lost art. So this should come as no surprise.

The Trump administration has a lot of work cut out for it.

I was aproduct of this type of public schooling in the 50’s and I have since thought that there should have been some cross-training. I still can’t sew worth a damn.

Raised my daughter to ride, shoot, fish, and change her own oil.

Believe it or not, Common Core has a lot to do with the cutting of shop classes. A principal's career depends on getting those test scores up.

And since Common Core does not test for shop skills, shop goes away. And the shop kids are thrown into advanced math classes, which Common Core does test for. But those shop kids don't want, or need, advanced math classes. They need a

The real reason those classes were eliminated from government-run schools is because the feminists raised holy hell that girls were being instructed on "domestic" chores like baking, sewing and running a household. There are now entire generations of women who have no clue how to properly cook a meal or sew a button on a shirt. On the other hand, there are plenty of men who can't drive a nail into a piece of wood, operate a power tool or even change a tire on a car. Pretty sad state of affairs all around.
