Maybe he could resign on Wednesday, Biden could pardon him on Thursday, and they all hit the road on Friday. An airtight plan, to be sure! LOL!
But what about the legacy?

But what about the legacy? Well, the legacy might be out the window. If he thinks it comes down to a choice, between his lagacy, and staying out of the crosss bar hotel, he might sacrifice the legacy.

Just because they are pardoned doesn’t mean the investigation couldn’t, or shouldn’t continue, and commission of perjury in the course of the investigation wouldn’t be covered by the pardon.
