I'm still confused about whether Trump's people accepted his resignation flat-out, or with the request that he stay on through inauguration day, and that the general refused the latter offer.

But whichever is true, the general's attempt to sound mystified by the whole process doesn't speak well of his character. Based on this and the details of his career, he sounds like an affirmative-action general.

The way I read the story was:

This General was a Bush appointee, Obama kept him...

PE Trump offered to keep him, but the General decided he didn’t want to stay...

The WaPo left out the part that PE Trump offered for him to stay, so he accepted his resignation...so then the General either went to the ‘press’ and said blah, blah, blah and so the story ‘fake news’ got out that PE Trump was making him leave at 12:00, which it takes 3 minutes to accept the Oath of Office, so the General lied and the WaPo lied...

That’s the way I see it...
