There is hearing protection which actually amplifies sounds (like game sounds in brush) but shut down sounds beypnd a certain decibels.

I shot my 300WBY with a muzzle brake without ear protection ONCE, and am paying the rest of my life for it.

So the Walkers sounded like what i needed, but damn, what a pain in the butt. It was like the hearing you expect from inside a space helmet. I used them once and trashed them...and they ain't cheap.
