The government has always pigeon-holed different races for demographics reasons. Many government forms collect this information by requiring people to check a block denoting your race or "national origin".

I consider myself white or as the government labels it, "Caucasian", but I always check "Other" just to keep them guessing.

If I went by national origin and was born in the USA, couldn't I check the block that says "US" or "American"? If so, why are there no blocks identified as such that I can check? Just wondering.

It used to be they just had a box you filled in labeled “Race”.

I would regularly write in “human”.
