True, except that the outsiders were mostly from elsewhere in Africa. All of the great civilizations in Africa were built before the arrival of Islam with one exception-- Zanzibar.

Zanzibar flourished because it was the center of slave trade. No talk of white man's sins for engaging in slave trade can be completed without discussing Islam's central role in developing the same.
