It took three months for Gabriel Marin and his wife, Yansiel, to make it from their home in eastern Cuba to this migrant shelter in Panama’s capital. The goal was the United States and now the door that spurred their odyssey has slammed shut.
Hundreds of people like Marin were stranded in transit in South and Central America on Thursday when President Barack Obama ended the so-called “wet foot, dry foot” policy that since 1995 has created a path to legal residency for thousands of Cubans who touched U.S. soil. […]
“We can just wait and see what Trump can do,” Marin said, holding out hope that President-elect Donald Trump could reverse the change as part of a desire to dismantle the recent détente between the U.S. and Cuba. “I have a bunch of cousins waiting for me in the United States.”
Journalists arriving at the shelter seeking reaction conveyed the devastating news. Some of the Cubans sat in stunned silence, while others moved anxiously from one floor of the shelter to another with moist eyes.
Asked if they would now return to Cuba, a small group on the shelter’s patio chanted that they would not return dead or alive. …

That is exactly what has been happening with the newer arrivals. I heard a Cuban in Miami who arrived in 1959 say exactly that in an interview on the radio. He is in favor of this change. The new arrivals are getting on the dole and sending money to Cuba that is helping to prop up the Castro regime.
Not sure how true that is, Cubans tend to take care of their own...
Of course it is ludicrous to make that point from a policy standpoint (if it is the reason for the change) because we have 100 thousands more illegals from south of the border who are doing the same thing...all dry foot and no enforcement...

I tend to agree. Everything Obama does in these last days is designed to help the enemies of America, particularly Islamists, and weaken Trump and the incoming government. Obama has a press conference scheduled for Wednesday and I wonder what else he might spring then or right up to Noon on the 20th?
Why would they want to leave Cuba? Michael Moorepasta said it’s a paradise with the best health care and education systems in the world.
This is absolutely evil Obama disperses illegal children throughout the United States but he will fly these refugees back to communist tyranny. It must be reversed.
Obama never did a thing to stop even one illegal immigrant. This is Revenge because the Cuban Americans tend to vote Republican. No matter how low their education they come here knowing what communism is and they can tell a dictator in an instant. The only reason that we carried Florida was because of those Cuban Americans in the Miami-Dade County. Hillary and Obama know this. They are pissed! Before Obama leaves he is getting revenge on everybody who has been helpful to the Republicans and to getting Trump elected. Why do you think they’re going after COMEY???
The night of the election Hillary went berserk. Screaming at podesta and saying that it was all his fault and Comey’s. Whatever you think of Comey he finally proved to be a patriot. His reopening of the investigation without telling Obama or Lynch was his way of making a public statement that” Yes, Hillary is guilty as hell”. And now he will pay the price.
The Cuban Americans are also going to pay a price. I do not have a drop of Hispanic blood but I do live in Florida and I can tell you I have not found Cuban Americans to be the public dole or living under bridges. These people work very hard, pay taxes and love freedom and pass it on to their children. I hope Trump will be able to do something for them since they don’t have a country to go back to!
Don’t forget what the Cuban Americans did to stop the recount for Al Gore in Florida.
Maybe some of the people who said they'd leave the country if Trump was elected will take their place - NOT!
