This is completely opposite to what Gen Schwartz is being reported to have said. Which is that he does not know why he has been terminated or by who.

Where did you find that “information”? the General said he had no idea why he was fired, only that the President had the authority to do so.

Trump is not yet president.

Thinking about this is seems it might be a bit of malicious “I will follow your orders to the letter” B.S.

A good soldier will advise his commander about such traps.

“Sir, would it not be wise to accept the D.C. Guard commander’s resignation at 22:01, after the inauguration is complete? That would give him time to finish security for the ceremony.”

An enemy would say “Yes, Sir” and never let on that the order created a potential problem.
