A YouGov poll released on Thursday found that the majority of Germans said racial profiling was not problematic, amid criticism of police checks on New Year’s Eve in Cologne.

Sixty-three percent of Germans in the YouGov poll said they did not find racial profiling generally problematic.

Another 27 percent said that it was problematic when police checks are not conducted based on concrete suspicions, but rather on general appearances, including perceived ethnicity or skin color.

However, the poll also exposed disparity between age groups, with 46 percent of 18 to 29-year-olds saying they thought racial profiling wasn’t problematic, compared with 43 percent who said it was. …

Profiling is simply an efficient shortcut in criminal investigation and in security. If you know the perp is a middle aged blonde Swedish speaking woman it is a waste of time and resources to have to pull in or investigate Negro French speaking 80 year old men or 12 year old Arab boys. Without profiling that is what you are left with. A strict profiling ban will keep far more criminals and terrorists out and about because resources are all going to random sampling.

News Flash: Most Americans don’t either. Jesse Jackson getting cold sweats when he saw two or more of his young brutha’s on the same sidewalk as himself is the classic example of why discrimination and discernment reside together within a couple pages of any dictionary.

So they do believe racial profiling is a problem?

Or (and this is certainly feasible) is YouGov publishing these results to try and shame liberal-thinking Germans into something?

Profiling is nothing more than good police work. Shortly after 9/11 my wife and I went to Germany to visit her family. Once we got back they cornered and questioned her 80+ year old grandparents “randomly” while scores of middle easterners strolled right through. I told them what #@&*ING idiots they were. And it remains the most idiotic practice imaginable to me.

I am retired from a major US law-enforcement agency. My specific investigative area of interest involved threats to the national security through the unauthorized disclosure of classified information. Ninety-nine percent of the perpetrators have historically been white males. And so we reflexively employed racial profiling when preparing our lists of suspects. In 30 years, I don’t recall the NAACP or the Southern Poverty Law Center filing a complaint or suit or grievance against my organization for not having included enough minorities among our suspects.

Profiling only exists because racists in the US used it to determine in the 1960s that black people deserved unfair treatment.

Thus profiling only has a bad name in the US. In other countries, it is the accepted norm. Not just profiling for race, but apparently wealth and social class, religion and citizenship. No problem at all.
