Commanding general of D.C. National Guard to be removed from post (at 12:01 pm Jan 20th)
WaPo ^ | Peter Hermann

Posted on 01/13/2017 9:30:14 AM PST by RoosterRedux

The head of the D.C. National Guard, Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz, said Friday that he has been ordered removed from his command effective Jan. 20, 12:01 p.m., just as Donald Trump is sworn in as president.

Schwartz’s forced departure will come in the midst of the presidential inauguration that he has spent months helping plan alongside D.C. police, the U.S. Secret Service and other top District officials. He will turn over command to an interim as power transfers from one president to the next, and just before the inaugural parade marches down Pennsylvania Avenue.

“The timing is extremely unusual,” Schwartz said in an interview Friday morning, confirming a memo announcing his ouster that was obtained by The Washington Post. During the inauguration, Schwartz would command not only the members of the D.C. guard but also an additional 5,000 troops sent in from across the country to help. He also would oversee military air support protecting the nation’s capital during the inauguration.

“My troops will be on the street,” Schwartz, 65, said. “I’ll see them off but I won’t be able to welcome them back to the armory.” He said that he would “never plan to leave a mission in the middle of a battle.”

Schwartz said he would oversee duties in a command center and then depart at 12:01 p.m., retiring from the Army.

He will be after he is sworn in.

Apparently, he can issue orders like this and firing all State rectums appointed by Obama when he becomes president.

He probably got a heads up to axe this guy from one of his intel insiders or a DC insider.

Supposedly from something I read earlier, there are going to be 5,000 National Guardsmen present at the Inaugural, and 3,000 security personnel. So the National Guard will be the largest presence there, and they better not be anywhere near a swamp or “draining” may proceed.

Not sure what I am supposed to infer from his CV. It doesn’t tell me whether or not he is trustworthy to put down civil unrest that day.

Mattis is not confirmed yet and so has not been sworn in or started in office. It cannot be from him.

Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz may be a good guy who will properly respond to insurrection and shut down a criminal anti Trump DC riot by paid Prog agitators.

Or, conversely, maybe he's not and that's behind his unusual dismissal. That he's already in the media playing the martyr suggests certain leftist behavior to me.

I don’t know Schwartz from a hole in the ground, but draining the swamp begins Jan. 20 at 12:01 p.m.

It used to be that generals were given three years at a job.

This helped keep things from getting stale.

The generals knew they had three years and that gave them a sense of urgency.

People like being generals/admirals. They’ll stay there forever.

That really slows down the promotions.

You need the new blood. This Soldier is 65. How much does he know about his 18 year old Soldiers?

First, who could order it?

It goes from the Secretary of the (Service) to the Secretary of Defense to the President, however, in a unique arrangement, the DC National Guard is commanded directly by the President as is emphasized in the following by the words “at all times”. Note also no chain of command to any higher military units for any of the services.

***From Wiki: “The President of the United States is the Commander in Chief of the National Guard of the District of Columbia at all times. Command is exercised through the Secretary of Defense and the Commanding General, Joint Force Headquarters, District of Columbia National Guard. The Secretary of Defense has delegated his command authority to the Secretary of the Army for the District of Columbia Army National Guard and the Secretary of the Air Force for the District of Columbia Air National Guard. The District of Columbia National Guard is commanded by a Major General with a Brigadier General as his or her adjutant. The Mayor of the District of Columbia, or the United States Marshal for the District of Columbia, or the National Capital Service Director, may request the Commander in Chief to aid them in suppressing insurrection and enforcement of the law.”***

Donald Trump officially becomes president at noon and this change of general occurs at 12:01. “...Inauguration Day takes place on January 20 following a presidential election. The term of a president commences at noon (ET) on that day, when the Chief Justice administers the oath to the president.”

Obama is no longer calling the shots at that point.

So, for some reason Trump is doing this. The new secdef or secservice(s) won’t be in place by next Friday. Ash Carter will still be the SecDef and his service secretaries the SecArmy/Navy/AF/Marines/CG.

Sounds like Trump has an issue with the guy.

Maybe Trump has notified a LOT of people that they’re out, but he’s just the first to go whine to the media?

I am not so sure about all this. Seems horribly wrong especially when we now there is planned disruptions to the inaugeration.

Who ordered the removal? Obama as President or Trump as President Elect. It seems to me security wise a continuity of power at this time is essential.

Second, wasn’t this guy appointed by Bush?

Trump’s term of office officially starts at 12 noon on the 20th. Obama has no ability to fire someone at 12:01pm; he can’t do anything after 12 noon because he’ll no longer be president, officially.

He’s just trying to step on Trump’s toes, put more on his plate, etc.

He said politically appointed Ambassadors.

Perhaps because those appointments have occasionally been extended into the new administration. Every Obama political appointee in the U.S. - from cabinet secretary on down - is out of a job the moment Obama is no longer president unless they are being reappointed by the new administration

No, he isn’t president until swears the oath. He isn’t automatically president at noon.
Its is very clear that he must take the oath first.

Article. II.
Section. 1.

Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:—”I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

According to a Judicial Watch post (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3510751/posts) here yesterday, there are major attacks set to happen inside the US by ISIS jihadis already positioned via Mexican drug cartels - mostly along the boarder by some further in. DC might be one of those.

The left is desperate to remove DJT before he takes the oath, so if any of them know anything they will remain silent and complicit - removing a trusted leader is one tactic to ensure an attack’s success - especially if the interim replacement is unsure or even loyal to ISIS or the Left.

I wonder if the guy didn’t want to serve under Trump and asked Obama to dismiss him.

Here is his listings of postings:

1. June 1979 - February 1984, Platoon Leader, 104th Maintenance Company, Washington, District of Columbia

2. February 1984 - February 1985, Maintenance Officer, 140th Transportation Motor Transport Battalion, Washington, District of Columbia

3. February 1985 - January 1987, Commander, 380th Supply and Service Company, Washington, District of Columbia

4. January 1987 - September 1990, State Training Officer, Headquarters, District Area Command, Washington, District of Columbia

5. September 1990 - October 1991, Intelligence/Operations and Training Officer, 140th Transportation Battalion, Washington, District of Columbia

6. October 1991 - June 1993, Executive Officer, 140th Transportation Motor Transport Battalion, Washington, District of Columbia

12. February 1998 - January 1999, Deputy Director of Information Management, Headquarters, District Area Command, Washington, District of Columbia

13. January 1999 - June 2001, Director of Logistics, Headquarters, District Area Command, Washington, District of Columbia

14. June 2001 - June 2003, Commander, 74th Troop Command, Washington, District of Columbia

15. June 2003 - November 2004, The Adjutant General - Army, District of Columbia National Guard, Washington, District of Columbia

16. December 2004 - June 2008, Deputy Commanding General, District of Columbia National Guard, Washington, District of Columbia

17. June 2008 - Present, Commanding General of the Militia of the District of Columbia National Guard, Washington, District of Columbia

Don’t know. Seems like a career bureaucrat of the kind we see so often in Washington, DC, except he wears a uniform. Never heard of him, but seems pretty entrenched, and has a seemingly myopic view of things...a Washington, DC view.
