When instituted the policy made sense. It is a different world today. US policy towards Cuba has changed.
I’m shocked by the reactions too. Of the Latino vote, 29% went to Trump, and we can guess that most of it was from the Cuban community. Florida was one of the key states that helped Trump beat Hillary, and this move by Obama is the most naked display of murderous revenge I have ever seen by a President. Because, as you point out, if they go back, they’ll surely be imprisoned or killed. And it was completely without warning, which was really savage. I hope Trump reverses it immediately.

Frankly any Cuban who wanted to come here should have seen this coming when Obama got elected and gotten out six or seven years ago.
This is just about the only action that Jug-Ears Obama has taken that makes sense.
Cubans have had a free ride into the USA for 50 years that began because of guilt about JFK’s Bay Of Pigs treachery and the resultant disaster.
It is way past the time when Cubans should be treated just like any other foreign national trying to enter the country without an Immigrant Visa.

No question Zero’s motivation is to send a big fat FU to Florida Cubans. It also puts Trump in an akward position regarding other latin country “refugees” should he reverse the new policy.
Venezuela isn’t living in a communist gulag.
Their citizens are not prevented from departing to wherever they want and many have flooded into neighboring countries to find work, food, etc.
