What if we sowed the chaos in the M.E. so those bastards would fight for territory over and we could largely contain them to that battlefield instead of chasing them all over the world.

Still a very bad idea. I would have let the regimes in place stay and nurtured their eventual replacements.
Very bad idea, it has resulted in the flooding of Europe with muslims. They have been trying since 732 A.D. when they were defeated at Tours by Charles Martel to take over Europe and now they have been welcomed with open arms, which will be repaid with headless corpses.
The wars in the Middle East has spread the disease all of the world, not contained it.
