Sensibilities and notions of decency have degraded significantly since.
Maplethorpe’s “art” is now all the rage with exhibits touring major cities throughout the US and Canada.

Yeah, nobody in politics, not even Trump, has so far been willing to talk honestly about what would really be needed to prevent a default. They all know the measures would need to be so drastic that the public would not support them and it would just end their career by suggesting them.
I remember cringing when W coined the term “compassionate Conservative”.
He had no idea of the implication, but we did.
