ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Health insurance would have to cover birth control without co-pays in New York even if President-elect Donald Trump repeals “Obamacare,” under legislation proposed Wednesday by state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

The bill would codify into state law the Affordable Care Act mandate for cost-free contraception and expand upon the federal requirements to provide cost-free coverage for all birth control methods, including vasectomies and emergency contraception like Plan B. It also would allow access to a year’s worth of contraception at one time and prohibit insurance companies from reviews that can limit or delay contraceptive coverage.

I’m actually fine with this. New York can do whatever it wants to do but they better not take a DIME of federal money.

If idiot liberal states like New York WANT to provide a state mandated health insurance plan, then that’s THEIR problem.

IIRC, Romney and the Massholes had a statewide healthcare plan in place long before ObamaCare effed up our nation.

Why don’t these liberals make their own NGO and use their own money for it?

This is all paid for by Medicaid.

And NYS cost shares its Medicaid generosity with the state’s counties. Just another reason Upstate is turning into a ghost town.

Under Federalism, states are free to do totally STOOOOPID stuff.

When STOOOOOPID people live there and elect STOOOOPID politicians.

I agree...it is a state item. If NY is so flush, let ‘em throw their money around.

Which is why NYS lost 2 House seats after the last census. Outnumbered taxpayers are voting with their feet.

It’s a state item until we go bankrupt and then demand a bailout....

In other words, New York didn’t need ObamaCare to mandate “free birth control” for its residents. They could have done this any time in the past if they wanted to.

Maybe New York should require car insurance carriers to cover the cost of oil changes and make homeowner’s insurance carriers cover the cost of new filters for the furnace, too.

Have you seen NYS’s Medicaid tab? Albany thought it could stick Uncle Sugar with the cost for this chunk. Trust me, they’ll still try to get the other 49 to pay for it.

Agree. If a state wants to do this, as this is really a 10th Amemdment issue, go for it.

Guys, believe it or not, there are still some taxpayers left in this bloody state. How about not wishing for our pockets to be picked even more.
