.....

Here is the exchange between Virgina Senator Tim Kaine (D) and Tillerson:

KAINE: Mr. Tillerson, thank you. I encourage people to fly north to south not just east and west, and other parts of the world have a claim in our attention, but there are some real opportunities. I assume you support the U.S. position that's been in place since the 1940s to do what we can to provide a two-state solution with Israel and Palestine with a living peacefully side by side, that is the dream we hope for that region and I assume that you support that?

TILLERSON: I don't think anyone would take a position they don't hope for peace in that area for the issues to be ultimately resolved.

KAINE: And peace within the context of two-state solution as was determined by the U.N. and been the bipartisan policy since the late 1940s?

TILLERSON: I think that's the dream everyone is in pursuit of. Whether it can be a reality remains to be seen.

.....

TILLERSON: .....

The issues are long-standing and I think it's the state department's role to create, try to create an environment that brings parties together to want to find a way forward. I can tell you under the conditions today that's just -- it's extremely challenging to do that, but that has to be the aspirational goal. And to your example, sometimes it takes a different generation that's not carrying all that baggage of the past with them.

KAINE: Thank you. Thank you, Mr. Chair.

Self determination. Let us deal with the Palis as I’ve already outlined, and stop trying to force counter-productive negotiations on us in which the concessions are all one-sided, and the Palis’ malfeasance is routinely ignored, even to the point of murder. What we’d want from the US is to stop it already. You may be pleasantly surprised to find that we are reasonably humane and decent, and don’t need Americans to show us how.

I support this. I've long wanted the Israeli/Palestinian "thing" to be treated as a regional, Middle-Eastern problem to solve. I, too, agree that Israel is more than able to figure out a solution with her regional counterparts.

If Israel needs specific help from the US, ask. If we can accommodate the request and it fits our geopolitical objectives, I imagine we will do so gladly.

Thanks--and my best to you.

So the English and the Nazis were allies in 1948?
No. The Arab armies were full of British and Nazi officers.

1. Settlement building does not preclude and never has precluded a two-state delu.. solution. Israel has been quite willing to ethnically cleanse Jews for pieces of paper.
2. Israel is not building any new settlements. Rather, Israelis are building homes in existing ones, renovating or expanding homes, or simply having children.
] 3. The "settlements" include Jewish-owned territory that no Israeli government would give up such as the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem.

“I think that’s the dream everyone is in pursuit of. Whether it can be a reality remains to be seen.”

He dismissed the two state solution as unreality. I prefer government that tries to avoid war. Sometimes it can’t be avoided but those times are fortunately rare.

Peace through superior firepower doesn’t work there. The rest of the middle east doesn’t want them, either. I feel badly for them, though not that badly. If they wanted the murders to stop, they would stop. Hamas doesn’t recruit in a vacuum.

Those of them that are inclined to live productively and not commit murder have employment here, and when an Israeli “settlement’ opens up, they get to hook in for irrigation water. There’s no need to send them all packing. Kahane was wrong. Whoever really wants to live in the PA homeland can head for either Ghaza or Area A and rot there, for all of me, and if Egypt still wants to make part of the Sinai available for an extension of the PA homeland in Ghaza, that’s fine, too.
