US troops enter Poland, 1st deployment at Russia's doorstep

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — American soldiers rolled into Poland on Thursday, fulfilling a dream some Poles have had since the fall of communism in 1989 to have U.S. troops on their soil as a deterrent against Russia.

U.S. and other Western nations have carried out exercises on NATO's eastern flank in past years, but the new deployment — which includes some 3,500 U.S. troops — marks the first-ever continuous deployment to the region by a NATO ally.

There are fears, however, that the enhanced security could eventually be undermined by the pro-Kremlin views of President-elect Donald Trump.

Poland and the Baltic states also feel threatened by Russia's recent deployment of nuclear-capable Iskander missiles in Kaliningrad, the Russian territory wedged between Poland and Lithuania.

"These actions threaten our interests, our security," President Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday. "Especially as it concerns a third party building up its military presence near our borders. It's not even a European state."

(Snip)

Poles still feel betrayed by Obama's "reset" with Russia early on in his administration, which involved abandoning plans for a major U.S. missile defense system in Poland and replacing it with plans for a less ambitious system, still not in place.

The armored brigade combat team arriving in Poland hails from Fort Carson, Colorado. The troops arrived last week in Germany and are gathering in Poland before units will fan out across seven countries from Estonia to Bulgaria. A headquarters unit will be stationed in Germany. After nine months they will be replaced by another unit.

In a separate but related mission, NATO will also deploy four battalions to its eastern flank later this year, one each to Poland and the three Baltic states. The U.S. will also lead one of those battalions.

Obama should have kept the missile defense shield. However, Obama suddenly taking a hardline on Russia and imposing sanctions, tossing people out of the U.S. and moving troops right before Trump takes office is ridiculous. Why did he wait? He's only doing this to impede Trump in his efforts to work on relations with Russia. Obama knows if Trump undoes his last minute actions, Trump will be accused of being a KGB agent, Putin's puppet, etc.

We are continuing to escalate things with Russia, continually ramping up the tension. You have folks like John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Rubio, and the Democrats continuing to ratchet things up. Hillary Clinton was ready to treat cyber crimes as an act of war and shoot down Russia planes over Syria. It seems to me the elite/globalists want or are careening us to WWIII. They have willing sheople in the Democrat faithful who have embraced the thing they once decried under George Bush - neocon foreign policy.

Our global, leftist, financial elites want a war with Russia.

With Russia weak and divided, they literally control everything except China

Bingo. Taking the missile defense away was one of the first idiotic moves made by ‘Mr drop 26,000 bombs’ in 2016.

Trump will use the carrot and stick approach with Russia. All Obama tried to use was a stick (and a weak one at that).

Is this more of the Petulant Child’s idiot activities to get back at Russia?

Sure sounds like it.

They’ve certainly tried everything.

One wonders what they’ll try next.

Who says Trump has “pro-Kremlin views”?

He just doesn’t have the whacked-out views of the current administration.

Obozo just wants a war with Russia. Even a limited war with Poland as the proxy and NATO as the force. But, he is trying to start a war. Someone should slap that bitch across the face and make him go crying to the Moocher.

Get back to me if Mexico and Canada ever invite the Russians.

A sovereign nation should be able to invite whomever it wants. The Poles are happy with us there.

Our boy president must feel like a real he-man, eight days before leaving office...all because the Democrats want to blame Russia for Hillary’s disastrous loss. Obama certainly doesn’t want to blame himself and his Leftist policies, so our military has to participate in his CYA charade.

What can 3,500 troops do? I am sure they are tough, well trained, and well equipped, but I doubt they can even slow down a full scale invasion.

Russian troops enter Mexico and Canada,

The Ruskies will be too busy dealing with the drug cartels down in Mexico. Up in Canada, they've got the indians to deal with. They won't want their import/export activities disrupted either.
