I agree with every word, FRiend.

Mattis is the real deal, and I can only imagine the relief wafting through all the ranks of all the services at his imminent appointment.

In his opening statement, Mattis said his comments would be informed by the fact that what he said would determine whether he would be confirmed.

So, basically, he told them he would say what they want to hear, not always what he really thinks.

We are governed by ignorant buffoons, and Mattis knows that very well.

If these morons were so concerned about "civilian control" of the military, they might have asked where Mattis got the slogan, "No better friend, no worse enemy," whose epitaph it was, and what historical significance did that character have.

But they couldn't, because they don't know.

I hope you’re right. Trump and Mattis should jettison as much of the Obama social engineering as they can, and abolishing the allowance of women in ground combat should be step one. I know some say it should be allowed so long as standards aren’t lowered, but how likely is that? Maybe in this administration with excellent people like Mattis running things then perhaps standards would be maintained. But in a future democrat or liberal Republican administration would that hold true? It seems inevitable that the standards will be lowered (either officially or unofficially) because the number of women who can meet the same standards as men will always be small and much lower than can be tolerated by the left wing extremists pushing this bad idea-turned policy.

The problem though with reversing this bad idea is that unfortunately Anthony Kennedy will probably end up deciding the matter. The left (ACLU I think) already had a lawsuit in the pipeline seeking to have the courts order the military to open all positions to women. I think they withdrew the suit once Obama did what it sought to have imposed by judicial usurpation and decree. So if they policy is reversed, the lawsuit will resume.

Even if Trump replaces Scalia with a suitably good conservative, that likely means a 4-4 split with Kennedy breaking the tie. At this point there is no reason at all to be confident Kennedy will get it right.

Trump and the GOP congress could try making the old policy law and stripping the courts of jurisdiction on the matter, but that will never happen.

Yeah! I was telling my wife that was hilarious... it’s a common ploy libs use to intimidate someone and is right there with shoving a video camera in their face.

Women in ground combat “. . . should be allowed so long as standards aren’t lowered . . . .”

Standards have been being lowered since the 1980s!

When I retired in 1991, the “double standard” had long been in effect, and the force was shot to Hell. It has gotten much worse since then!

Congress has the call on women in combat and the cowards reneged on it and let Obama make the call. He immediately told his bootlicking Sec of Defense to tell the JCS to get the troops ready. It made no difference at all that study after study showed women in combat would degrade the mission. The Sec of Defense, first Hagel then Carter, should have told Obama it was not in their authority to lift the Congressional ban. Congress reneged on their responsibility, and it can damn sure be changed. The same goes for allowing sodomites to openly serve after a 200 year ban going all the way back to the Founding. And of course the ridiculous idea of so called transgenders serving and even making the services perform sex changes on the mentally handicapped that think their another sex.
