I think Chris Steele is a bad pun or reference to those movies

Yes, it was to take down Wilson and the media, but then the dupes tried to use it to take down Trump.

I don’t think Chris Steele actually exists and is made up using that agent’s name from the Movie “Spy Hard”.
I also think it was a sting.
