Former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice says she supports President-elect Donald Trump s nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) for attorney general.
[Sessions] is a man who is committed to justice and knows that law and order are necessary to guarantee freedom and liberty, she wrote in a Monday letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), according to CNN .
I know that Sen. Sessions will uphold the laws of our great country and will work to ensure that every person here in the United States is given the voice that is deserved, added Rice, who served under former President George W. Bush.
Rice, who is from Alabama, added Sessions has helped stop the prejudice and injustice against the descendants of slaves in their state.
The former of secretary of State and the first African-American woman to hold that role also noted Sessions rallied efforts to award the Congressional Gold Medal to civil rights icon Rosa Parks.
Sessions, who was once a Senate Judiciary Committee member, will face his former colleagues in confirmation hearings scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. The Alabama senators confirmation process has the potential to become one of the most heated fights over Trumps Cabinet picks.
Critics have hammered Sessions over accusations of racial bias and his failed nomination for a federal judgeship more than three decades ago as disqualifying for the nations top law enforcement officer.
Sessions nomination for a U.S. District Court judgeship in 1986 was withdrawn after witnesses testified he had made racially charged remarks, such as calling the NAACP and the American Civil Liberties Union un-American.
Supporters have countered such attacks are scaremongering that ignores Sessions work protecting civil and voting rights as Alabamas former attorney general. Republicans who have served alongside Sessions have praised him, and many say he will receive the simple majority needed for confirmation.
Agree. Why does a former National Security Adviser’s opinion have any relevance to the AG position? Because of her skin color?
Have Condi testify at the confirmation hearings.
If the charge is that Sessions is a racist, then that would be the one example where skin color matters.
Well said.
Bump!
Now you are being silly. So you think that a black endorsing Sessions will somehow blunt the attacks from the Dems and people like Sharpton and Jesse Jackson? Rice's endorsement is as meaningless as David Duke's endorsement of Trump. Rice got her appointments due to her skin color, not her superior ability. Why is her endorsement so important or newsworthy? She is no conservative.
Thank you for that link!
LOL! So many "purists" that haven't a clue about the real world - in this case, her word is a big help.
LOL. In the “real world” her “word” has no impact whatsoever. No one is changing their mind because a black RINO endorses a Rep. Justice Thomas’ blackness did not stop the Dems and the MSM from savaging him. Black Reps are called Uncle Toms.
Who really values the Rice endorsement except for a few FReepers on this thread who buy into the myth that her skin color matters when it comes to influencing Sessions’ confirmation? What’s next? Breathless anticipation that Colin Powell will also endorse Sessions?
You’ve got me stumped...I have no idea how to respond to something that clueless.
